Bought Retail, can't intstall next campaign...

Hi people. So I bought TWS2 fall of the samurai in store and beat the first campaign. I was surprised to see that the next one didn't unlock automatically.. I find out I need to buy it.. Alright then, well this is new.. So I go to buy it through steam. It won't let me because it says I don't have the game. I send a letter to steam support. I get this response;

Unfortunately you will not be able to purchase the Steam version of expansions or DLC for this game.

Steam DLC and expansions require a Steam version of the original game. In addition to purchases made through Steam, "Steam versions" include retail purchases and purchases from alternative digital distributors for games on the following list:

Please note that in some cases there may be CD Keys from alternative digital distributors or CD Keys that do not match the pattern shown in this article - you will not be able to activate these games on Steam.

SO I went to amazon.com and bought my key there for the rise of the shogun campaign. $10 well it gave me a 15 digit cd key, not a 25 digit like it says i need on that steam link. Am I just screwed or what? I paid $60 for the game, played 1/3 of the game, and now I can't even pay $10 more dollars to play the last two campaigns??? this is crazy.. any help out there? thanks

In Fall of the Samurai all 7 original clans are unlocked from the start. You can get a few extra as DLC so what do you mean by cant unlock the other campaigns?
Shogun two is the original game and must be bought seperatly as FotS is a standalone. There is also one more Rise of the Samurai which can be bought on the steam store for about 8 euros.
There are no two versions of the game as some games have. This game is steam only whether downloaded or on disc. I know this as I have Shogun 2 and FotS on disc while I downloaded Rots as you have to.

Did you activate Fall of the Samurai through Steam ?

Yes I did, it mentions steam right on the back of the retail box. It didn't give me much of an option really.

Yeah. Re-read your OP Akaie is right. I guess you're trying to activate Rise of the Samurai while only having Fall of the Samurai.

The only DLC available for Fall of the Samurai are the 4 clan packs (and the blood pack). To activate Rise of the Samurai you'll need to purchase Shogun 2.

Weird.. Okay. I thought that Shogun 2 FOTS WAS Shogun 2. Okay I just went to the steam store and It says I already own Shogun 2 AND FOTS. I'm really confused

There should be some added clarity here. The ROTS DLC is tied to the original Shogun 2 entry, not Fall of the Samurai. If you were trying to apply your Rise of the Samurai key to Fall of the Samurai, I theorise you will have no success. If this is indeed the case, you'll need the original Shogun 2 title before being able to tie the ROTS key to your account.

FOTS is actually a standalone expansion of Shogun 2. It runs from Shogun 2 front end. By installing FOTS you are technically have installed Shogun 2 also due to MP features. However you do not have the activation code for Shogun 2 which makes it unplayable and you'll unable to activate Rise of the Samurai.

There's issue with people having problem purchasing Shogun 2 after they have installed FOTS first. One of the workaround I remember is to purchase Shogun 2 as a gift to yourself (or buy from non-Steam sources) and use the code to unlock Shogun 2.
