Default How do you feel about Muslims?

I opened this thread in recent frustration. It seems that whenever there is a terrorist action, people immediatley go to their fall back, Muslims. Why are people so prejudice where they associate Muslims with those *******s and bastards. No Muslim in their right mind support the Taliban and Al Quida. Muslims in the MIddle East are uneducated and are easily manipulated into thinking a certain way. I do not see why people associate the average Muslim with people like myself. Once again, I ask why people are so prejudice against Muslims? Mostly Caucasian people now-a-days say we, Muslims, are living in the dark ages, yet the majority of us are not the ones who are prejudice and racist to those of different nationalities , cultures , and religions, nor have we been in the past. Sure there are always extremists, but why are they the sterero-type for modern Muslims? So, what are your thoughts on modern Muslims?

    Peace,
    Adnan

Personally I feel that anybody that follows an organised religion is lacking in the brain department, especially one that practices circumcision. A prejudice of mine that I cannot shake.

Why do you feel this way? Organized religion is there to keep our faith and for us to stay on the right path. There are many things that organized religion prohibits, but it is for our benefit, Islam atleast. I hope I can change your mind in the future as I gain more knowlege on Islam.

In general, anyone who understands Islam should realize that those terrorists are not Muslims. Those terrorists go against the most fundamental teachings of the Koran and they pervert and manipulate Islam for their own gains.
    I expected that from you H&G .

In my experience organised religion does nothing but take advantage of its followers and teaches a warped doctrine.

In many cases it helps. Look at the amount of drunk drivers who die behind the wheel. Islam prohibits drinking and therefore helps the people. Same with smoking. When cigaretts were released, it was prohibited, and now we know it causes lung cancer. In many cases Islam and religion in general helps it's followers.

Are you actually suggesting that prohibition is anyway a good idea? Putting restrictions on people for their own good is no better than treating them like children.

You know...circumcision...both male and female, is really abhorrent to me.

And arabs seem to have this funny obsession with making up religions...crazy fanatical religions...religions with lots and lots and lots or rules...rules on how to wipe your ass, rules on how to screw your wife, rules on how to eat your bread and cheese. Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Zoroastrianism...and lots and lots more...thousands of wierd religions and heretical deviations on all of them...over 10,000 sects in that crazy hellhole, and all ready to cut each others throats over them...ready to cut your throat if you should disagree with them that their holy writings aren't the absolute word of GOD. And then you read their holy scriptures and what do you find? That it's all crap, just worthless ramblings of some half starved little arab out in the wilderness suffering from hallucinations. Jesus, Mohammed, John the Baptist, Moses, Elijah, Athanasius, Anthony, and on and on and on...zillions of little dirty ragged "prophets" that all have a hot line to the creator or the universe so you'd better do as they say, as GOD says through them, or they and their followers will kill you for being blasphemous, for being an infidel.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Where the hell do you get off saying that Arabs made all these religions. Who spread Christianity? Constantine, where was he from, the West. Why are people like this guy so damn prejudice. Oh I know, they're just Flames removed prejudice spoiled rich kids.

so I'm an idiot because I'm jewish?... not like I had a choice in the matter.

    hmmm...

and FYI just because one follows an organized religion doesn't necessarily mean they blindly practice or accept everything thats preached. Faith can be a very comforting and helpful thing, and putting some sort of order to that faith can be at times one of the most powerful and soothing elements you'll ever experience.

I respect your right not to be affiliated to any religion. why cant you do the same for me?, or for the millions of people like me who find comfort in their apparantly brain dead belief system.

and as far as circumcision goes (for males anyway), its currently done when your a young child. you don't remember and it causes no debilitation. if it were to be done in the fashion that Lot had to endure, we'd be 21... and that we would remember and I would agree that to be, abbhorrant! so all things considered its not so bad.

Also I think I should warn you with your statement... "especially one that practices circumcision" you are practically centering out jews, and I personally don't appreciate that your anti-semetic comments go unwarned in this forum, especially how close it is to flat out racism.

    @above poster

I do agree with this on a personal level, however, I have worked with many Muslims before and they are usually very nice, moral, calm people.

Oh I am sure they are. I am sure. I know it through personal experience.

But they do mutilate their offspring's genitals. A difficult thing to mix with nice, moral and clam.

Is female genital mutilation a large problem amongst the British Islamic community?
Under the patronage of Rhah and brother of eventhorizen.

I wouldn't say so, but either way male circumcision especially as a religious ritual is a grand violation of a person's religious and personal rights. Is it lawful to permanently tattoo your religion into your child's flesh? It seems to negate the sacrifical element that circumcision is meant to represent in Judaism, especially, so the choice is better left to someone 18 years or older whether they believe their own religion demands this of them.

The issue is specific to certain African, not necessarily Islamic, cultures. At the time specific legislation was passed to outlaw the practice, about 7,000 girls at risk seemed to be the going rate.

Firstly, if your following an organised religon chances are you were born into it. Secondly, if you've been circumsiced you probably have no choice. Thirdly, cirumcicion is also used or was in day's of old to prevent infections, which is certainly not lacking brain. And fourthly, most great early discoveries were only discovered, and spread through religon (especially the early Islamic ones such as the Western Number System today). Perhaps the notion of following one god is a bit old considering all we know, but your views on the world does not lower your intulect and neither does the fact you've been born into a religon and been taught it by your most trusted people scince you were young, and never truly given the chance to question it until the mold was set.

And as for my views on "the muslim threat.." I would much sooner fear an American than a Muslim. Na, only kidding, I try my best not to fear anyone by such things as religon, especially when you work out the percantages of Muslims that are terrorists and "a threat" and those that haven't.
