Default Audio book / voice acting

Has anyone listened to the Random House audio books read by Roy Dotrice?
I read most of the series a couple of years back and decided to listen to the audio versions on the way to work - 4-5 months later and I'm almost finished!

I must say Roy is great but some of them are also read by another who is quite monotone.

Dotrice mainly uses regional accents for certain characters, so the Lannisters have Welsh accents, the Baratheon's Yorkshire and Martel Scottish.

His best characters are Dolorous Ed, Tywin, Qyburn, Jorah, Theon and Varys.
He struggles with the woman, only Mellisandra and Asha are really good. Dany started out ok but then by the fourth book he gives her the same accent that he uses for the wilding women which is like a bad impression of the wicked witch of the west and doesn't fit at all.

Anyone have any favourites or cringe worthy character voices?

Anyway it got me wondering how voices will be done in game, will certain accents be used per region?

Martell's = Scottish? Something stinks in society.

Welsh Lannisters? How on earth did they work that out or did Tywin have a secret fondness for sheep?

It does actually make sense. Geographically Wales is equivalent to the Westerlands if you go with the British Isles hypothosis (though that makes Kent into Dorne, and Newcastle into the Dreadfort...).

Also, the Westerlands is quite hilly, rocky, and full of gold, just like Wales! Minus the sheep and leeks though.

Hmmm... but Lannister is simply a misspelling of Lancaster... and the Lake District has lots of hills, rocks and ... slate? Anyway, I always think Westeros is moreso Britain flipped horizontally, does pose a problem when the Westerlands end up in Yorkshire though...

It seems weird, Dorn for example you wouldn't expect Scottish accents but when you hear a group of people from the same region talking with the same accents it works well.

Strange, if GoT did Scottish Dornishmen the fanbase would be in uproar... or hysterics...

At least it's a good climate for wearing kilts though

I always imagined Dorne to be Irish. I have no idea why.

Actually I believe that it was just the Rhoynar who had "olive skin" who live at the coastal reigons, and of course there was mixing throughout dorne, but there are also people that look just like everyone else in Westeros (who I have envisioned to be taller, fairer and lighter of skin and hair). I always thought they had a slightly different accent, but you have to remember that this a universe (or at least a solar relationship)where the seasons revolve at varying times and lengths. This universe is very different. Why couldn't the Dornish people have the same accents as the rest of westeros?
    just my thoughts

    EDIT: yep Rhoynar, not Rohynar

because they are descrived as brown people and virtually any art about them is/are brown people.
and Olive skin is black not brown.

And as I was saying, you have to consider that this is a completley different universe. For instance, when we hear an African speak english, and then hear a N. American speak english, you hear a distinct difference. But should that mean that a Dornish man speaks with a different accent then the rest of westeros? We can't base allow our perceptions of real life to interfear or overwrite G.R.R.M.'s world, as much as we do (I admit, I had actually pictured the dornish people as white in my head, even though I knew that there was a mix of dark color as well).

None of the popular culture/art produced by fans or the HBO series has affected my "vision" of the dornish people or culture in any way.
Olive is definetly black, like the one I just picked out of my salad, and also the color (at least one of them, I wouldn't doubt the Dornish were described as brown as well, due to the desert) Martin used to describe Dornishmen, especially the Rhoynar, the immagrants from essos. I believe that the Martells have some Rhoynar blood from Nymeria.

EDIT: Taken from Game Of Thrones Wiki: Rhoynar People
The Rhoynar were a people from the eastern continent who fled to Dorne during a war with Valyria and intermingled with the Andal population there.
So there is Andal blood and Rhoynar blood in Dorne, like I previously said. Of course, I'm not disputing that the dorne is a blend of color.
