I am wondering what the community plays when get tired of TATW. I remember that there was a strong hype on Skyrim year ago. What games do you enjot now?

Personally, I am looking for a strategy game which puts more stress on the management of a whole realm. Took my time with Crusader Kings but there is too much politics and succeeding laws, while pure military conquer is what I am after.

Apart from killing huge amounts of time playing TATW, I like to chill out with Just Cause 2 and nervously wait for Baldur's Gate EE.

If you want more conquests I would suggest Europa Universalis. It has less diplomacy than Crusader Kings.
I also liked Victoria 2, but Hearts of Iron tired me...

When the whole strategy game thing tires me, I replay Dragon Age 1 and 2, and other RPGs
Let’s keep enjoying kings and wizards. But also remember to keep them where they belong.
Where they can do little harm.
    Where they entertain us.

    In fantasies...

Age of Mythology is a great military RTS which has a nice balance of normal human troops mixed with a few monsters from Greek/Egyptian/Norse mythology. AOM is one of my favorite games of all time but unfortunately it shows its age. Warcraft 3 also shows its age but it is still a classic RTS in a fanstasy setting. Civ 4 is my favorite Civilization game but thats gonna have a lot of diplomacy.

Empire at War is a cool Star Wars game with the format of Total War (the split between turn-based planet building and RTS battles). It's a fun game for a while although the maps can get repetitive and the AI is not a challenge. But it is always satisfying to see Star Destroyers blasting each other up with turbolasers.

These days I play some League of Legends, Dragon Age Origins, Skyrim, and Halo. I'm also working on Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls.

Diplomacy is ok. I remember Age of Wonders, where through diplomacy you could get almost anything from other players (more than in any TW, for sure). Diplomacy is like war fought with tongue and ink. It is politics and not being able to control directly many aspects of the kingdom that made this game not fully enjoyable for me.

I always thought that EU is the same as CK, only later in the timeline. But what you said made me wanting to try it.

Have played Dragon Age 1 on xbox and it was disappointing for me, but maybe it was because of the platform, not the game itself. Best rpg I played recently was Fallout New Vegas and Witcher, though Wither is more a story than a game.

AOM i am accustomed with. Played a lot but got bored. Still, I believe it is better than any Age of Empires (and I am glad that I am not alone in liking the game).

Red Dead Redemption is truly epic.

    ETW with DarthMod.
    Sins of a Solar Empire.
Any of of the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games.

But mostly I don't have time for anything but TATW, and not even time for TATW this last week (as folks who want me to finish my guide are finding).

Age of Mythology didn't do much for me. For some reason, when it was new, I found it frustratingly hard. A couple years ago I dusted it off and found it way too easy. That's the campaign. I never play RTSs online and I don't get time for LAN parties now-a-days.

Age of Wonders was fantastic, but someone stole my CD and I haven't bothered to replace it. I may have to see if GoG has it...

Yeah, AOM was an RTS with the popular style of the 90's for that genre. Compared to modern strategy games it can be difficult to go back. But for its time it was amazing. I really liked the aesthetic of human armies mixed with a few monster juggernauts (reminds me of a typical Mordor stack including trolls in TATW). The Norse units and Norse mythology were new to me at the time I was playing that game too. And the Greek heroes... oh man. Bellepheron on his Pegasus was a 1-man army.

In the end, though, it's a 90's RTS with a simplistic economy. If you want some real complexity, try out Dwarf Fortress

I play pretty much anything I feel like at the moment. Mostly Total War games, but also lots of other stuff like Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Mount&Blade, Civilization and Elder scrolls games.

I used to play a lot of BFME2 (until the servers go shut down), and used to be pretty good at it if I may say so myself.
I've also played AoM a lot, but as the multiplayer didn't work for me I was limited to singleplayer. Now I think of it, there also is a pretty cool lotr mod for AoM. (Legends of Middle Earth I think it's called) In case anyone is interested

I've never considered buying Red dead redemption though, after I had watched this review:

The Last Kingdom is a great mod that most people don't know about.

It's even better with my submod.

I actually really like the new X-Com game they managed to keep the touch from the old games while completely re-inventing it as well. This game is definitely worth its money.

Have they fixed the current bug with the alien base? The memory leak that makes it unplayable?

Interesting topic. I am a gamer, such a gamer that it's all I do. I have a full time job and I'm the chef at my restaurant. I have a wonderful girlfriend of almost two years. That put aside, I play too much video games.

TATW has taken over my life. It is just to godamn satisfying destroying an enemy army triPle the size of my own with real historical strategies.

When I don't play TATW, I pick something out of my 800 other games. Borderlands lands 2 I got about 3 weeks ago and have been playing it in between TATW. I also play Street Fighter 4 but not as harshly as before, I'm actually pretty good online and can challenge if not beat the pros. I just recently beat Chrono Trigger on my SNES, very satisfying.

What I've always had a love for though is strategy games on the PC. Be it real time or turn based, RTS is a genre that must be played on the PC. Over the years of trying to compete online, I've realized I am not very good at RTS's. I don't think it's my reaction time since I've played lots of fighting games and I can easily perform combos. I just think I make poor choices and get owned for them. I enjoy playing the AI in RTS for this reason.

Some good RTS's I play on my PC are; Starcraft 2, Civilization 4, Warcraft 3, Empire TW with Darthmod.

Without a genre-restriction, it's hard to say. I play almost every genre, from RTS to FIFA to strategics.

My actual favorites are FIFA 12, Westeros Total War, and some play-by-forum. I have started Bioshock 2 (bought at 5€ on steam) but it's not having a grip on me for some reason.
