What to Install? Need Guidance.

Long time Rome: TW player here, and I recently stumbled onto the RTR stuff and find it interesting. After years of using the console to balance things as best as I want to try something new.

But with so many different versions of things (and a lot of time already wasted downloading things I apparently can't use,) I need some guidance in what to do.

Now, I have the R:TW "GOLD" edition that came with BI.

After doing some research, I thought that the RTR 6.0 Gold version is what I needed. I installed the 1.2 patch that it requires and installed the RTR version itself.

I get the new opening, new credits...all of that...but when I go to start a new campaign, all of the options are grayed out. I am unable to start a new single player campaign.

I did some more research and found this forum, but I was unable to find a solution to my problem in the FAQ section. I did some reading there, and it sounds like I might need a different version of RTS, but I'm not sure what.

I'm more than willing to reinstall R:TW and download the correct version of RTR, but I need some help in determine the version that I need.

Anyone have a suggestion for what I should do?

PS: It may also be worth nothing that I do not have any other expansions to this game. Just the Gold version and BI.

That depends on which versions you want to play.

RTW Gold version is different from RTR Gold version despite the name as RTR 6 Gold was created pre-BI.

In any case the latest official version is RTR VII.

I suggest you install that as it's the current one which is officially supported.

That is what I was thinking but I thought I read something about needing to install Alexander, which I don't have.

It need BI patched to 1.6

Some RTW Gold version have BI which if installed reverts back to 1.4

Before installing the mod (or any current mods) run the vanilla BI and check the number on the top-right corner of the option screen. If it says 1.6 then it's good to go.
