We all know of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of the greatest book-to-film adaptions of all time. It is personally my favorite movie ever. My cousins just came in today and we were digging through some movies until we all just decided to have a marathon session and watch the whole LOTR trilogy all in one sitting (With deleted scenes and all). To describe the experience in a few words... It was awesome.

Once scene that I loved, and which literally made all my cousins jaws drop, was the Battle of Pellenor Fields scenes. Truly a masterpiece in the history of cinema. Everything just mixed well, from the dramatic music to the outstanding visuals. It really immersed you as if you were there and made you actually care. Few epics imo have really tapped into that.

One of my favorite moments in the whole trilogy is when all seems lost for Minas Tirith, the forces of mordor are closing into the citadel and all seems doomed for men, until.. war horns are heard from afar and the Rohirrim(sp?) have arrived.

It was absolutely stunning seeing thousands upon thousands of horsemen marshalling to face the seemingly infinite forces of evil. It gave me goosebumps when Theoden rallied his army with his inspiring speech and then him and his army shouting "death!"

Another fav is when in the same battle, the forces of Mordor are routed, but in the horizon the Haradrim and their Oliphants are approaching. You could see fear in the eyes of the horsemen of Rohan, but Theoden again quickly rallies his men, sounds the horn, and charges against pure evil. The battle reminded me of a star wars battle done medieval style. Absolutely brilliant. Absolutely epic.

Makes me imagine how it would have been like in the battle of Pellenor Fields. I imagine total fear at first, but after you see all the suffering and madness surrounding you, you just would not care anymore and just fight till the end.

Man i can still remember the same goosebumps i had when I watched Return of the King years ago in the theatre. I loved it so much i had to watch it everytime someone i know was gonna go see it. So I watched it with my friends first, with my brother a second time, lol and even with my parents for a third.

I guess this is just a mindless rant, but iono i just need to vent it all out. Whats your favorite Lord of the Rings moment?

Hehe.. Not sure what moment. But I thought alot of stuff was missing from the battle. Maybe they should make a "The battle of pelennor fields - the movie". They would have enough stuff for that.

You must understand that I read The Hobbit twice and Lord of the Rings four times. I saw each film over a dozen times, even watching all three in a single day with very small breaks in between. I have reason enough to be sick of it, though I know it's my fault for once being obsessed with it.

I was actually a little underwhelmed by the Pellanor scene to be honest. It could have been so much more than a few cavalry charges. Although it got better once the Oliphaunts appeared. I preferred the scenes of Mordor attacking the city itself.

my favourite movie scene of all time is when Dante & Randal play hockey on the roof of the quick stop and then Dante asks for a Gatorade - Randals line then is amazing

    "Hey! wheres all the Gatorade?"

it was perfect, had me in stitches. I dont have a fav LOTR moment though, the books where godawful and the films even worse, because when reading a book there is little that is exciting about hearing Aragorn's lineage back to the neolithic period...because thats what Tolkien does.

Yeah, and then the ball goes flying off and lands somewhere below. Dante leans over, and asks Jay, "Hey! There any balls down there?"
Jay replies: "Biggest pair you've ever seen, dingleberry!"

But, to me, the best scene in a movie was in Madagascar when the hippo, Gloria, asks the lead Penguin, Skipper, "Man, where's all the people". And Skipper says, without skipping a beat, "We killed them and ate their livers."
Gloria just stares at him for a few seconds, and then skipper says, "nah, just joking, doll. The people are on a slow boat to china."
    ....
Now, think about that. They were in antarctica not long before. I'm assuming that's where the boat they hijacked was last stopped. They must've let the people go there. How long is it from antarctica to china? They might've well had eaten their livers, because those people are going to die a slow death of starvation and dehydration, compounded with possible frostbite.
In the context of the movie, of course.

{nF}remix dude i congratulate you on a fine chose of film. The Ride of the Rohirrim is truly the greatest piece of film making for a very long time. It would take something beyond this world to beat that. The CG, the music and the fact that it was partially real all make it brilliant. The finished product is breathtaking, not just the fighting, but seeing that wave of horses flowing across the field at the charge-STUNNING.
That all there is to say.

LOTR battles are boring. heres what i said about it at the ORG:

sorry about flaming LOTR! no offense to LOTR fans.

Erm, with the battle of helms deep cavalry charge its the sun that blinds the orcs, not Gandalf. If you've read the books you'd know that. Likewise in the books the Rohirrim smash through the mordoe forces at the Pelennor, so what were they supposed to do in the film?

Yeah, it completely took away the feeling of the battle being "desparate".

Meh, I thought The Return of the King was mediocre. The ghosts part was just wayyyyy cheesie and bad, too. I don't know, it seemed rushed, cheesie, overly-epic, and... I can't put my finger on it but I hope you get what I'm trying to say. For me, Lord of the Rings is all about the Fellowship of the Ring and like.. half of The Two Towers. The rest is just exaggerated, overrated mediocrity.

Who cares if it's accurate? It's fiction.
