Default 6yr old P.C.....Not sure of whether to be proactive or not & get Win 8

    Hi everyone,

I have a 6yr old computer and I don't know if there are any "tell tale signs" of it dying.

I understand that a computer can fry in 6mos or less, I'm just looking for input regarding
whether I should buy a new Win 8 computer at this time.

I want to be pro-active and I don't want to buy an "All in One" computer as it is not expandable or flexible.

    P.S. I'm considering a customized HP computer with Win 8 Pro 64 bit, 8GB ram & 1TB of space

Here it is: HP ENVY h8-1440t Desktop PC

    The website:
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/hom...C#BVRRWidgetID

BTW....I don't know how to build my own system and don't trust any non big name independent computer company to do so!

If you have any close computer stores you should ask them if they could build it for something like 5% markup. Choosing your own components will still save you a bit of money. I think you might as well get Windows 8, you will be exposed to it eventually.

Windows 8 is great. You can definitely order components online then pay someone to built it for you. Doing things that way can be the cheapest.

    Hey man,

I noticed this company sells in the U.S....Can you help me with building a computer?

I noticed Lenovo & Asus and I'm thinking "Not your normal PC brands...."

Also, What is their policy on custom P.C.'s insofar as hardware frying & malfunctioning???

    Thank you,

Lenovo use to be subsidiary of IBM, Asus stay away from for now.

parts depending on maker have individual warranties, long as you have an Invoice you can RMA it takes some time but usually they will replace it without much fuss. and as ive said in other threads not enough time as of late to break things down, you can contact NCIX themselves and they will answer the questions you have far better than I can, i build all my own stuff so never used their service however I have directed other forum members to use their service before and everything turned out great for them.

Depends on your location, UK doesn't have Newegg and NCIX.

I live in the U.S. so Newegg & NCIX are available to me.

I don't know about PC brands outside of the "HP" "Dell" "Mac" fold, so to speak.

This is the reason why I'm leery about companies like NCIX & Newegg.

I've used NCIX.com - in fact, it was Crazyeyesreaper who put together my parts list for me, way back in August 2011. I'm in Canada, so shipping took...2 days, and shipping cost maybe 30-40 bucks for the entire computer.

I had them assemble it - they usually charge a $50 fee, but there was a discount for whatever reason when I purchased, and it only cost me $40. Within that assembly fee, they also include a standard 1 year warranty, with extended warranties available for purchase, if you so choose - however, it may be a better option to just go with the standard warranty, and if something ever goes wrong, take it into a local "Mom and Pop" computer store. Also worth noting, was that they e-mailed me to let me know that there was a chance that the graphics card would not be totally secured if it were shipped in my case, they would assemble and test the rig, and then take out the gpu to ship safely, if I told them to - otherwise they would ship the computer fully assembled, and I take my chances that the card wouldn't fall or get damaged. I told them to take it out, they did so, and were helpful enough to send me some youtube videos that they recorded, on how to actually install the graphics card.

I fully recommend NCIX.com in this case. Also, theres...really no reason to be leery about Newegg (or NCIX...basically the Canadian counterpart), as it is actually a very large and reputable company within computers and computer hardware - if I remember correctly its one of the largest e-tailers/most well known companies, out there in terms of computers, isn't it?
