    Default kick a$$ battle idea

while playing rwt, i would often wonder how much better the game would be if the player were able to fight on the steps of temples and other buildings rather than just the walls. I would like to know if this will be incorperated in m2:tw and what you fine fans think.

Street fighting never seemed exactly realistic. It isn't house-to-house hand-to-hand madness, and flanking attacks by using sidestreets and doors would be completely different. Actually, it might not even be fun - how would your masses of weak soldiers defeat a small number of elites in a house with one entrance?

I mean, if there is one door in, and 15 spartans inside, how many peons will have to enter just to kill those 15 men?

Good Point! Hahaha, you could just torch the house and turn the tables with your own troops waiting outside!

I wondered myself about things like that, would they ever ambush the enemy by waiting in a large house or something? definitely the cathedral would be interesting, Like the Swiss Guard protecting the Pope.

Anybody ever play American Conquest? Oh, God . . .

But I really don't think there was serious WW2-style urban warfare in ancient times. Just pulling stuff out of my rectum here, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with the nature of pre-gunpowder combat. Mass really matters.

Those lonely Spartans are only scary in a DnD-like world. (Ugh, that's why I can't stand Warhammer). In truth, those Spartans get shoved back, mobbed, mauled, and trampled. At the absolute best, they maybe take down several enemies apiece before getting tired, or unlucky.

But defending some big, open buildings might be cool. I could totally imagine, when the walls were breached, falling back to a cathedral or an old Roman coliseum. I'm pretty sure the latter happened at some point during the middle ages.

It wouldn't work very well with the control scheme, though.

    Are you kidding?

Trained from Birth to be a Savage Warrior.... and only after a few minutes? Any peon that tried to enter the room would die. So many would die in fact, that they would be afraid to enter the room after a few rounds, and simply arrow the Spartans to death. Either that or light the building on fire. Even then, those 15 Spartans would take out a good deal of peons when they charged out.

I agree. I love it how people think 300 spartans alone killed an army of 50,000 men. The truth is, those people have never read about the defeats of spartan warriors.

actually a while ago somone proposed something like that. I dont think its possible with RTW. The only method I cant think of is replacing temples with hills in the shape of a temple and then trying to texture it as a temple, but I dont think that that is possible... Cool idea though.

yea like that 1 viking dude who held back the saxon army at stamford bridge. Clever people who dont want to die do find a solution when their opponent is static, so like the way he was killed by spearmen under the bridge, the spartans inside the house would be torched or buried in rubble (by collapsing the house from outside)

Very cool idea. Allow armies with weaker men to fight harder and attacking armies with elite units to be more vulnerable.

You could just level the houses that have elite soldiers that won't come out inside. Torches could become tactical weapons.
