Default Ladies and Gentleman of the SPQR.

I, Hoffman, Lord Overseer of the House of Julii, Govenor and Military Commander of all its forces, am pleased to report to you that we have finally, after 15 years of bloody stalemate, broken the Macedonian Army.
Total casualties of the 15 year stalemate are figured as such:
782,500~ Macedonian dead, with an estimated 100,000 additional wounded who were able to retreat.
35,233 Roman dead, all combat Legions were fully reconstituted once during this campaign, as it is, 4 of the 6 Republican Legions are ~75% Auxilia with 2nd Legion disbanded and rebuilt so few were the survivors, and the two Auxilia Legions are at 30% strength.
Thessalonica, and 3 surrounding Cities have fallen, given Rome access to the Black Sea and cutting the Macedonian Empire in half.

Titus Asconius, the Legate of 2nd Legion, managed to breach a hole in the Macedonian defense and take their key supply City within a single turn thanks to the subterfuge and sabotage of 4 brave Spies, the Macedonians withdrew and were chased into the mountains, Thessalonica burned as 41,000 Macedonian citizens were put to the sword by Appius Antulus of the 13th Legion.
With their base of power in Greece lost, other Macedonian cities fell without much resistance. Soon Auxilia Legions will be in defense and the Republican Army will return home for full reconstitution before setting out to Conquer the southern portion of Gaul.

After Gaul has been fortified, the new income available to the Empire will allow a full out assault on lower Greece, where the Greek Cities and their formidable armies have crushed multiple Macedonian invasions.
The Republican Army is planned to be incresed from 6 Legions to 10 for the Invasion of Gaul, 15 will be in service for the Invasion of lower Greece. And then, then the Army will finally turn upon Carthage.
    Delenda Est Carthago!

    ***
Good God I don't want to go through that nightmare again... imagine a 15 year long campaign to take the Hedgerow country in WWII.
Fighting 5-6 battles per turn and just... I don't want to fight Macedonians anymore, I could crush their armies with my eyes closed I've killed so many of them and they wouldn't stop coming! They were like the Energizer Bunny on PCP.
Although the siege of Thessalonica was awesome, they had an Epic Stone Wall, watching the 13th storm them with a Siege Battalion in support was one of the coolest things ever.

When fighting Macedonia in SPQR I always keep Legions together. That way they can support each other fully in case several Macedonian full stacks come out. Taking thier main cities is a must to slow down thier war effort.

But good kills there. I myself probably only had to kill 15,000 Macedonians at the most(excluding mass slaughter, pillage, plundering and what not).
I probably lost a hefty 5000 men to them.

OMG Hoff! You killed 750,000+ Macedonians! Holy ***t! I'm taking their coast on the Adriatic right now, since they turned on Rome after many years of peaceful, profitable trading. I've killed 61,000 and I THOUGHT I was getting the upper hand on them! It's already an expensive indeavor....good post BTW.

@ Lucius_G Hey man! What's going on in your campaign? What year are you and Hoff in, difficulty level, etc? How many provinces?

Hadrian, what do you think I've been doing the past month or so? Knitting? I've been playing for about 3-4 hours a day fighting 5-6 battles every turn for 15 years, fighting anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 Macedonians per battle. My coffers have been bled dry by this war, and I finally got a break in this game by having a peace treaty with... of all Nations... Gaul.

I took over Macedon also, but only killed 150,000 :-( I did a quicker campaign by hitting them with Several Armies off the coast, it still too countless turns, but they never hit with the force the should have, Gaul feel too, but only 120k on them, they didnt do those waves so they must hav been fighting someone else at the time. Macedon could have been drained from taking thrace and dacia. who knows.

The new patch adds flavor to the game, I have had 3 Auxilia Legions revolt one me. lol The whole fun it leaving the generals in the field and you never know if their loyalty gains or loses. I set it up that way, so a 3 ring general could be loyal one turn and 3 turns later not be, but that is hardly likely as its very very random on loss and gain of loyalty, besides traits of course. Sppoky feeling have a legion walk off the front heading toward rebels lands leaving a nice gap in your borders. YOu get the feel the panic of Nero on his northern legions. lol

A salute goes out to my team of spies and assassins. They have tirelessly gone before my legions scouting and softening up the enemy by sabotage and subterfuge. The assassins are draining the Macedonian economy and causing popular dessent amongst their populations while the spies locate targets in the cities and expose enemy ambushes. The many Gaulic assassins have all tasted good Roman steel.

I'm playing 6.1 on H/H in the year 200BC, Rome has lost 52,000 men total, while her enemies have suffered far worse. Gaul, with 2 provinces left after the Republican onslaught of 220BC, has lost 133,000 worriors, Macedon, currently engaged in a bloody 8 year war with the Romans, has suffered 63,000 casualties, and Carthage, scourge of the earth, has lost 47,300 men to the swords of Rome as well. The ubiquitous Rebels have sacrificed 29,000 fools, and the Greeks lost 1,100 worriors defending Syracuse and then wisely sued the Republic of Rome for peace.

While terribly expensive, the Romans do have control of the waters off their coasts and project their power over the entire western Mediterranean Sea. The fantastically powerful 20 ship Pirate fleet has been sent to the bottom of the sea, at the cost of 45+ Roman Quinquiremes, but it had to be done. Our Julii coffers are holding at 100,000 Denarii but the war with Macedonia is growing more expensive all the time.
The 2 northern bridges are held by Roman sentries who barr the passage of diplomats onto the peninsula wishing to bribe our auxilia, and all would be assassins as well.

Soon Gaul will be no more, and the remnants of the early Republican troops will descend onto the Iberian peninsula to begin the Punic wars, and at the same time, Macedonia will fall under the might of Romes Imperial Legions who will then themselves turn south to take the prime lands of the Greek Allied City States. The Germanic tribes must be delt with as must the armies loyal to the Senate, and Armenia has become a giant in the east as have the Pharohs of Egypt. So many lands to conquer, and so little time.....

This is a glorious time to be roman! Thanks to the cleaver intervention of Gaius Marius, the old legions are being pulled back to be replaced by the new Republican Legions. Legions are being recruited in every major city, and the invasion of gaul have been launched. After numberless of massacres in the cold alps, the gauls seem to have lost all taste of battle. After 30 years of war, Gaul is ready to fall. And in Africa, the Chartaginians are fighting our progress at every step. Chartage itself have fallen to our brave legions, along with the other nearby cities along the coast. The chartaginians refuse to give up. They defend the last of their cities with desperate courage. But it is inevitabe that they will fall. And as the roman coffers are bottomless, the republic have already started planning the third front in our war. Mighty Macedon stands firm. But legions are being trained as we speak. They will assault the macedonian kingdom from land and from the sea. It will be one of the greatest campaigns in. history.
Yet, troubling words have reached the ears of the senate. The greeks have conquered Anatolia! Rumours say their numbers are endless, and that the gods themselves lead them! They are indeed a dangerous enemy worthy of respect.

**Too bad i can't get and longer in my campaign. My PC is busted in some wierd way so i cant play ANY games at all. I have a thread about it in The basement.**

Why don't you go for Macedon in the first years the? If they're sooo godlike, why don't destroy them as soon as possible?

Because, that ruins the challenge, if you blitz everyone you can very easily find yourself over-extended, or when the Marian reforms come around you no longer have any challenging opponents.
Besides, just starting out it was tough enough just to Keep Gaul at bay, let alone take Sicily and then start an invasion of Macedonia.
