Default Spartan Strategy in the Pelopennese

I have taken three settlements in the Pelopenese as Sparta and am profiting about 3-4000 drachmas a turn. My question is, should I keep extending my empire or should I just keep my current settlements and wait a bunch of turns to be able to afford to actually build something in my settlements. I don't want to risk over extending my empire without having any infrastructure to give me profits. Is there any strategy I'm overlooking?

That sounds like sound advice, garrison Megalopolis heavily so should protect homeland. Perhaps venture to Krete

I did that and to be honest it's not worth it. You have to build a ship and maintain it and Crete doesn't give enough revenue to really make for it. And you need a considerable garrison there to keep it. As I said before I prefer to attack the Macedonians and take Corinth because it gives you a very high income.

It is generally a good idea to target major regions, since they give you the most money (less if they aren't integrated, so you may want to integrate them a bit first). Of course, most major regions belong to a rival faction there, so make sure you can beat them. As Antiochus says, if you aren't confident about that, go for Crete first.
