Default 500W PSU: Is it enough ?.

Im running an I7 3770K & AMD 7870 GHz Edition on a 500W PSU total power consumption is around 130W CPU Load and 130W GPU Load then you have smaller things like motherboard memory and the likes of hard disks total power output for my machine is around 380-400W Load maybe ?.

My question is, Is this ok as long as i am not exceeding the power output my system is in my signature some help would be kindly welcomed .

By the way i wont be upgrading until next year so dont worry about new PSU'S will get one later.

It kind of depends on the quality of the internals of the PSU. On the surface the 500w is just fine. It doesn't leave a lot of headroom, but it is within spec. And you'd know if you were exceeding the capacity of the PSU. It can manifest itself in various ways. Least of which would we system instability.

Right the internals are pretty good its a branded PSU i think its OCZ or Corsair i cant recall exactly i bought it from a well known parts dealer in the UK.

Exactly i mean to be frankly honest i never went into much detail the ivy bridge CPU is only 77W thats rated with TDP so its a blast bloody hell the previous generation was 97W or 100+ or something .

Then we have my AMD 7870 GHz Edition its the standard version no overclock thats around 127W i beleive on Load.

Total power cunsumption lets says 120+130 = ...

I then have my 1TB hard disk which barely takes nothing and my memory and again hardly nothing .

Honestly i think its fine it wont get near 450W anyway i think i will have around 100 wats of power left on the PSU IMO.

^ Great tool the reason i got a 500W because i measured my system in this first it barely over 400W .

Sorry about the terrible non existent grammar.

Well i dont know what to do now guess i will measure the wattage.

    Thanks mrmouth & Bolkonsky.

    It depends on the PSU.

dunno i would go for something like an 850w. gives you room for future upgrades....(well ok if you planning on staying on one gpu etc).

always go for a decent brand.

    according to guru. 550w

Oh its fine my 500W is running my system absolutely smooth .

I had problems after i installed windows 7 ultimate system went on and off but the reason for that was because my asus bios was terribly outdated i updated to 1404 only released last week lol.

The best thing about my PC has to be the Asus motherboard i switched it from optimal to normal and now my pc can run with a 500W PSU no problems however switching back to optimal gives me problems booting this is becaise asus optimal mode sets all your hardware to its core maximum performance sadly if i tried this it was going to use more than 500 Wats .

So if anyone wanted a budget PC but also if you dont plan to upgrade anytime soon go with this build in my signature all i need to do is add a 650W 80+ and i can easily stick two 7870's in my case and even more room for 2000 MHz memory modules its all frakin amazing i love my new build so happy with it and so glad i went with the V-LX Mobo .
