    Default Negatives of Windows 8

Seeing as how Windows 8 has been just released, it obvious that soon the major PC manufacturers will be only including Windows 8 on their machines. I will be expecting to get another machines in a few years time. What are the major drawbacks of windows 8 if any, and if there are, would it be worth it for me to simply buy Windows 7 and use that instead of 8 on the machine?

It's more or less Windows 7 only faster and with a new "start menu" which is really annoying and pointless.

Nothing wrong with Windows 8. It's a fine OS and I run it. It's annoying how many people jump on the "I hate" bandwagons. I hate Apple. I hate Windows 8. I hate outsourcing. I hate China. Yeah, how media gets the sheep to I hate everything is mind-boggling. There's nothing wrong with Windows 8 and if you get it, great!

I doubt I'll be upgrading to Windows 8 but when I buy a new PC I'll probably get it because I don't really see any massive problems with it to be honest.

Foxconn may have something to do with all that?

    Mind-boggling indeed.

By the way, anyone figured out how to disable the annoying Metro interface and just go to the traditional start menu with Windows 8?

Try DisplayFusion, that's giving me the traditional start menu. That said, it doesn't disable Metro.

a negative of Windows 8 would be perhaps the common program incompatibilities for early adopters that happens with all new OS.
i haven't been reading about it nor am i interested in it, not sure how close to Windows 7 it is.

It's more or less Windows 7 with a new program for a start menu.

there are very substantial differences on how memory is managed along other things.

its a good OS, snappy, stable and it works. I would read the arstechnica review to know the problems that it has with the duality it presents with ''metro''.

The ''metro'' thing didnt get into everyones taste, I do like it though. Guess Im used to way the apps are show in OSX

Yeah it runs much better, even on lower end hardware. There's numerous under the hood changes that I'm enjoying at the moment.

However, ultimately in how you use it for things, it will be more or less the same as Windows 7.

The question remains - can you still emulate Windows Classic mode with the traditional Start Bar or is that FUBAR? I'm not looking for a smartphone OS for my desktop here - call me a traditionalist....

my only problem with it is ms trying to emulate apple's closed system. how the hell they are gonna do that without selling the hardware part I don't get.

Yeah I see this repeated so many times, and I never can see any kind of truth in it, not an nm of it.

I own a mac, I install CS6, suddenly Im going to be sued by apple because I installed something outside of the app store? Or when I install hp12c widget oh wait I cant do that!

The idea of a store is to create a safer, centralized and easy environment, it happens on ubuntu too, so are they the new apple as well?

Now to the point the best coverage I have seen about win 8 is ars technica, they have the inner workings since the build conference and so forth, its pretty good.

I dont know, for me windows is the same thing since win 95, kernel change and other things, but the main change in experience in windows is always the start menu

isn't ms planing to to make certain software + games win store only? aren't they trying to cut out companies like valve? I got the info from a news bit I read about how gabe from valve crying foul after a ms win 8 conference. that was a couple of months back. ms isn't dumb enough to do it right away, they will slowly ease into it, just like cod elite by activision.

nobody is dumb enough to do that. Consequentially this might happen in some years or not at all. Also we do have some games that are already in this kind of thing, steam, games for windows... its a method of distribution.

    people like to panic.

How exactly different is the new start menu? Is it harder or better to navigate?
