Default Using Ported Navy Units to Defend Against Attacking Army/Navy

I noticed in the Battle of Carthage video that the Roman fleet was able to attack Carthage's port/land troops, but I didn't see any of Carthage's navy attacking the Romans as they were coming in. Maybe this is because Carthage was under siege for so long/their navy had already been demolished....

I would like to see any ships that are ported in a given city be able to show up in the battle map when another army/navy attacks the city. Otherwise the attacker would always have the upper hand. This seems like something that should be in the game, but I didn't see it in the preview so I thought it was worth bringing up.

This is actually a significant issue. Most cities blocked the harbor with ships or with a chain across the entrance so that you couldn't just sail in and start landing guys inside the harbor. I would imagine a city as magnificent as Carthage would have blocked their harbor, especially considering how long the siege took.
    War is peace.

Remember that the siege had been going for three years at that moment. The fleet of Carthage had been long gone. Plus, if you have a fleet you will be wasting it in port. You need to use it in open water, where it can attack enemy shipping.

BTW, now I remember there were sunk ships in the harbor, so maybe there had been carthaginian ships. Who knows...

Carthage still had a significant fleet when Scipio attacked in 2nd Punic war but by the 3rd it was greatly reduced but not totally gone. The chain across harbor or chained together ships is real though so just sailing into harbor would be difficult. I'd love to have a siege where walls are very close to water and ships sail up, drop soldiers who then bring up ladders to try and scale walls on the water side with ships providing missile cover.

You can see naval combat in one of the screenshots. It seems like they've cut certain parts of the whole battle, for some reason. Maybe naval combat isn't developed enough yet or something.

i actually never thought about ships defending your port when you are being attacked by a naval force and i think it should be in but if you see an enemy navy going through your waters isn't common since to attack it if you are sure you can win before they get too close to your port?? so isn't kinda pointless to have a navy sitting around your port?? but all in all i agree that there should be a defending navy attacking the attackers

oppaiO_O: I completely agree that it probably makes more sense to attack an incoming invasion force in open water rather than waiting for them to get in your port. But, there might be a strategic advantage in forcing them to attack your fleet in a bottleneck (if you are substantially outnumbered), or they might surprise you before you can get your fleet out of the port. In such situations, you shouldn't lose the ability to use your navy just because they were still in port.

What if your fleet just finished building or the enemy fleet is substantially larger? Using the walls of your port to wait and then attack enemy in the process of landing seems better.
