It just goes straight against the lore

Re: Why is Aragorn faction leader of eriador?
The concept of Eriador as a cohesive faction goes against the lore too. They are not a centrally governed nation. In the act of making them united for the purpose of gameplay, leaders were chosen from strong and significant individuals from that region, I'd imagine. In other words there are no *better* candidates since Eriador didn't really have a central government.

hmmm perhaps,
but I'd rather have seen a thain of the shire as a faction leader because they actually had power in the region

Or we could have Barliman Butterbur as faction leader. 0 command. 10 dread(see the second to last chapter of RotK). 0 authority. 0 obedience.

Remember Rhun and other faction too are not lore either, it's for game play only.take Rhun fr example, at the time it was not a united sovereign nation with one monarch or leader but a bunch of independent tribes or clans each with its own leader. But for gameplay purposes this fits better, so does Eriador

Re: Why is Aragorn faction leader of eriador?
The OP is an incorrect claim.
Eriador is the area in which the Rangers of the North, a.k.a the Northern Dúnedain a.k.a the Dúnedain of Arnor lives. Aragorn is the leader of this people.
You may oppose the very existence of a Eriador faction [while it is called Free Poeples of Eriador to prevent the image that its a state] but since the Northern Dúnedain (the only reliable military force of the region beside Imladris) is a part of this coalition of Eriadors free peoples in TATW there's nothing incorrect about him as a leader that oppose the lore.
