First, I was never accusing Raglan that he would do it.

Second, it was never meant to be "oh ho he is visiting the thread lets kick from the competition." nor will would we ban someone form the competition on "suspicion". I know we will never have to enforce this rule for Moderators or Hex, but it is there to cover any eventuality. MD is right, I completely trust Moderators and Hex, which is why the rule doesn't state "Moderators and Hex found viewing the results before the poll has finished will banned from the Reviews forum."

And the banning from the Reviews forum is meant to be a ban from the competition, I mucked that up.

    No one said you were.

Moderators and Hex are the only ones who can view the results before they are finished, i.e. they are the only ones being affected by it.

Furthermore, as I have stated above, there is no way to differentiate between viewing poll results in a thread and reading a thread. The only way you could even think someone was viewing a poll result would be if they are viewing the thread. It is exactly "oh no he is viewing the thread let's ban him." It doesn't have to be there to "cover any eventuality" because there is no other way to view the poll results before they are finished - only Moderators, Hex, and the organizers of the competition will be able to.

So not even if someone hacked into site, and used their power to look at the results?

Why am I being picked on here :p

As an aside I did point this out in the feedback thread. But was ignored by everyone except major. Also, I still think it's a stops role that the person has to enter the competition. Surely the have done so just by posting a review.

And people will post a review might want to but not check the forum at the right time. Just seems backwards to me.

So far we are thinking of having 4 broad categories, which will split and divide as more reviews get posted. Those 4 at the minute are:

    -Recreational Products
    -Tech Products
    -Consumable Products
    -Tools and Resources

However before we implement them we'd like your suggestions as well, do you think these are enough or if not, what do you think could be added/removed/changed to improve them.

    Thanks,

Hi guys, I've merged this with the RotM Commentary thread.

I've gone through and changed the current threads to match the new categories, please take note of them when you next post a review.

People who have posted a review in the Game Reviews forum can now enter the Review of the Month.

    Best of luck everyone.

I think the Review of the Month should be divided.. Adding Games, Products, Art, etc seems a little much

The difference being some things are easier to review than others. It should be divided by categories (like the Oscars), where there are multiple competitions instead of Best Actor/Best Picture/Best Actress/Best Director all in the same competition, they are divided. By that I mean a competition for Product Reviews & Game Reviews & Whatever else reviews. It makes more sense that way. Not to mention if you broaden it to multiple categories, then you will have more people doing reviews knowing there is a better chance for them to win if it's category based. And players can enter into two categories.

The problem is, I find, if you do it all in 1 competition, what's to motivate somebody to do 3-4-5 reviews a month? If they can only enter one? If they could do a Product AND Game Review, and enter two different competitions we'd be far better off. It's a motivating factor. If we get like 100 entries, then nobody is going to walk to bother with such a minimal chance to win, when the votes will be like 2-3 max per nominee because there's so many entries.

Let's do like the Oscars.. Divide it up

    Product Review of the Month
    Game Review of the Month
Artist Review of the Month (Saw you mention that, no idea what it is)

But honestly do you think there are enough people writing reviews at the moment to warrant this?

Thanks for your ideas, and by all means it could be something done in the future, but at the moment I don't there's the demand for it, sadly. I mean if we get like 20+ submission for the Review of the Month for December then we may have to rethink.

Well I've seen numerous people say they are submitting, but haven't done so yet. There are plenty who write game reviews. And Products is just getting going. There's still 11 days for submissions. Plenty of time.

I just see that Products and Games are VERY different types of reviews.

    For example,

It took me hours to write my Warcraft 3 Review, but my Samsung Galaxy S3 review was done in a fraction the time.

A Best Actor can't win Best Supporting Actress.. Their two different categories

But voters will clearly see the difference in effort

I dunno. I think very few will view the entire Review (depending on length). I have more info hidden inside Spoilers than I do on the actual open review itself. But I was afraid of "character" restrictions. I think it's like 10,000 or something??

I have virtually a 22-minute game length "AAR" hidden inside 1 spoiler for example.
Another I got music from the game.
Others I have Photoshopped screenshot tutorials. But I know how people skim through without reviewing it all. Maybe I'm just paranoid people won't open the spoilers.

Then they will just see how much extra effort in. I for one always ready for Spoilers if that helps.
