    Default Some questions

    Okay, first question:

How to counter culture penalty? Ive heard I should destroy buildings, but how to do that? Also I simply CANT have more than 40 provinces. They just keep rioting and after a while it will push me out of the city, REBELS! ....
Im playing on normal too, so I gotta suck or im really doing something wrong :S

Second question is related to modding but if I start this thread might as well input it here:

If I download and use RTR, will I be able to play multiplayer as normal or, well, how does it affect MP in general. Or does it affect it at all?

    1. Replace their holy building right off, and keep your temples as developed as possible.
    2. Use peasants instead of soldiers to garrison it until they are more attuned to your ways.
    3. Move your capital as close as feasible.

re: the 40 city cap you perceive
This is also probably due to squalor buildup as the cities get larger. To combat this...
    1. Grow your cities very slowly to allow time for the culture/health buildings to stay current with the city size. Watch the growth rates, and keep building peasant units and moving them to underpopulated cities. Don't over build farms in cities that have a naturally high growth rate. The most obvious example of this is Patavium.
    2. Despite your best efforts, over time, certain cities will grow to the point of being unmanageable. When this happens, move your armies out, let it revolt, take it back and exterminate the population down to a nice level where the people are happy again.

Welcome to the RTW forum, Xaysn!

To destroy buildings, right-click on the building, to get its description page to come up. On that page you will see a hammer button in the lower left corner. Clicking it demolishes the building and gives you some cash back. Some buildings (like roads and farms) can not be demolished.

For some preventative and curative actions you can take to counter squalor and low P.O., please see my post in this thread. There are some other good posts if you search for them, as this question comes up a lot.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks a tonne guys. Really helpful : )
Will start a new campaign, as my other three are quite ruined Brutii, Macedon, Scipii, Thrace and Scythia attacking me on my Julii. The Senate punished me with forcing me to pay 70k to them. I now have 60k. And not positive, -60k

Went a lil off topic there, but anyway

Anyone knows how RTR will affect my MP, and ehm. Should I patch from 1.2 to 1.3 or 1.5. Some games have patches which really blow, so, err, should I patch my game?

    Thanks again guys

    Xaysn,

If I were you, I would definitely patch to 1.3 and then immediately to 1.5. I have only played 1.5, but hear from others that it is better than 1.2. Mostly these patches got rid of bugs, lots of bugs. So they are IMHO definitely worth it.

I would notch up a bit of time on 1.5 before going to a mod; but that is just me. I have heard that you have to have the exact same mod in order to join MP; but I do not know that from experience: never played MP.

There are several great mods (so I've heard), and I've also heard that there are some mediocre and really bad ones. RTR is one of the great ones, depending on what you want. Review the details of the mod to see if it is for you. When I get around to it, I will probably go with Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae. I've yet to read a bad word about it; and lots of folks rave about it. Lusted has pulled the best of a lot of a different mods together to make this one. Lots of input from lots of people. I think he is up to T.E. 5.0. (EDIT: Nope. It's 5.1.)

On the failed Julii campaign: It should be possible to keep all the Roman factions friendly and helpful until you have at least 45+ provinces. Do as many of the Senate assignments as possible, and do not let your cities rebel. (This means, among other things, that you should exterminate everything you capture in the mid to late game; and typically means you should build only temples that give max happiness in your far flung cities.)
