    Default Stop the population explosion

    Hey all
I'm playing Macedons and the population in my cities are booming at ridicoluos rates
My capital has 36000 ppl, Larissa has 38000, Thermon & Bylazora 29000 each.
This is very early in the game. I didnt even had time to build sewers in these cities and now I have a plague of course which I'm actually happy about.
I have noticed that my cities have a ridicolous amount of grain imports. The growth rate are between 8.5% and 13.5%(in Larissa)
Please help me stop this madness. I dont know if its just makedonians being such sex addicts or this is normal.
If it is normal then can anyone help me to get rid of grain resource in the game? Also is it possible to mod temples to create negative pop growth like -4% or something?
    So any suggestion or help
    Thanks you

Yes this is also a huge problem for me in Gaul imperial campaign, large unit size, because of those ******* grain imports . Plz Darth check it and remove those grains for barbarians. It should be harder for them to reach 3re level so quickly
I don't even need farms anymore and one of my barbarian city has 20000+ pop and still growing at 4% rate lol. They are springin like rabbits

This is all due to the grain import problem I think
Please see if there is a way to disable grain imports if not that I would love to completely remove grain as a resource. When you add temples and farms and trading building and slaves the population growth becomes astronomical.

You cannot control which settlements import / export trade resources by land & sea; in other words this is extrinsic. However, you can control which trade resources are available per region, and also the price at which they are traded at; this is intrinsic.

So are you saying I can remove Grain from the game as a resource. And that would automatically dissolve grain imports and exports?
If you say YES do my question the the next question is HOW?
    thanks

I've written a tutorial regarding trade resources at the ORG forums, here's the link:

This is the probably effect of the ressource mod of border_riever in the imperial campaign. Many grains resources in gaul, macedon, senat region,...just for fun I have imported the mod into my mod BBW and it has the same rabbit effect

I had to slaughter my cities (Patavum and Mediolanum) twice now, cause I cant controll so much population, but it dosen't really bother me since I get some extra cash flowing

    @duke
in imperial campaign in the file descr_strat.txt in the section
    ; >>>> start of resources section <<<<

set a semicolon before the grain ressource in the region you do not want to have
    example:
    ;Umbria--------------------------------------
    resource olive_oil, 101, 72
    resource pottery, 97, 80
    ;resource grain, 95, 81
    resource slaves, 97, 81

Txs repman I'll try. But will I have to start a new campaign for changes to apply? Also do I need to remove grain from descr_regions.txt too? Txs a lot :original:

I do not believe that you need to start a new campaign.
But you can always find it out yourself after you make changes
load your campaign and see if your cities have the huge grain imports.
    good luck

    This is what I did
When you open descr_strat.txt and start looking for grain you will notice that
almost every province has grain or double grain. It just didnt make any sense.
I deleted or substituted grain with other resources and only left grain in some provinces like
Egypt, northern Italy, Babylon and Carthage. Now the population growth is back to normal.
2.5 to 5% growth compared to 14%++ I had before and cities with almost 40,000 in the early game.
When playing huge size units normal pop growth makes the game much more challenging
because you do not want big casualties.

If you need to control your population then go into the descr building file and add the population_growth bonus to -25 or -50 when you get to huge city. A fully upgraded city will balance it out and make growth 0 or negative.

Ok here I made my "Uber Gauls kick ass campagne", Gauls got only 5 provincies, and no grain at all! But neighbour germans do, and they have gold, and so does Spain, and Julli, Gauls got a lot of wine cause they like to drink , some iron, cause they good at iron work, and silver in Alesia, so you want come down like a stone, economy wise. You gonna have to fight Romans anyway, and you can chose between Spain and Germania as a second enemy, or you could fight all 3, but I wouldn't advice that.

Here is a file descr_strat.txt >> right click and save target as...

Grand Duke Vytautas, you like to play Gauls right? I challenge you to survive this one
