I too am against the rule, as it is a pain to enforce it. I'm pretty sure nobody will report it.

But it is your hotseat ljomx, I'm just the admin.

Admin can toggle_fow and check for watchtowers

If you didn't want watchtowers in the game you should have just raised the cost to something stupid like 10,000 dragons. This rule is beyond asinine.

There is no way to remove watch towers without a script (not even sure it is possible then)and these need to be put in at the beginning of the game.
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Sheesh it's just a goddamn watchtower.

It doesn't matter if I change the price because it would be impossible to enforce that as well.

How about this you may build watchtowers but once I ask dux to use toggle_fow to see any he will deduct 3k for each. Sound fair enough?

how so? has not everybody downloaded your files and used it to play the game?

It is indeed just a watchtower, why forbid it?

We weren't told to download the files.

And quite a lot of "diplomacy" going on right now

I can't enforce everyone to install the files. Also they could just go into the files and make forts/watchtowers 100 and there would be no way of knowing.

I think ppl use/rely on watchtowers too much and its unrealistic. If it was possible for an enemy to tear them down that would be fine but they are permanent. The fact that everyone seems so upset kinda suggest they depend on watchtowers some how.

At least now you can't just build a watchtower, way out on the border, leave the place undefended and have a 3-4 turn cushion. The very least you will need to do is have units/generals patrolling the border.

Unrealistic? What's so realistic about having an army of knights attack an army of spearmen and lose without causing one kill of the spearmen?

And did you also lower the cost and maintenance of units so we can have all these men running around. Or do I need to do that myself?

I've never seen a host propose a rule after game start, have everybody vote it down (except Antoniusz), and then have the host say we're using it. This firestorm is going to top the one I got after kicking invicta from Retrofit 2

Never ran into that problem but if it did I would request a redo or manual disbandment. And please don't tell me you are seriously complaining about upkeep Maybe watchtowers should have an upkeep anyways

Well the thing about watchtowers is that they save quite a bit of time and thats never a bad thing imho, its rather annoying having to keep some units at the border to scout with over just some odd one to check woods here and there

    But, ill roll on regardless

Well the thing is I think that Westeros hotseats got very stale in some aspects and removing watchtowers could force a different gameplay and something new for westeros vets :p

OK I honestly didn't expect ppl to react so negatively to this. Actually I did but thought people would be ok just like the forts in the other one. I created this hotseat for people to enjoy and to be challenged. I honestly think banning watchtowers would make it challenging albeit maybe not a lot but that is a matter of opinion.

I can't raise the price and enforce it so I think a compromise is 3k per watchtower if you want to build. Since people can change the price on their own files the only way would be having the admin deduct it.

Again didn't mean to cause trouble and I apologize but I think that this game has the potential to be very fun and interesting with or without watchtowers,

It certainly would be a challenge, and different from other hotseats - but watchtowers have their uses, and are realistic enough if you ask me.

I will follow the rules no matter what, but I fail to see the purpose of this particular rule (feels kinda hipster for a reason).

EDIT: Downloaded the modded files, but they don't have that nifty autoresolve tweak. Am I missing something?

"For myself, I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace: Minas Anor again as of old, full of light, high and fair, beautiful as a queen among other queens; not as a mistress of many slaves, nay, not even a kind mistress of willing slaves. War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend: the city of the Men of Númenor, and I would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty, and her present wisdom. Not feared, save as men may fear the dignity of a man, old and wise."

Didn't add the tweak b/c I was getting some odd results. Needed to change/test it some more before putting it in a hotseat where people would flip out over a crazy result.

Final decision is no watchtowers. Yes it is hard to prevent you from building them but the punishment is 3k per watchtower to be taken by admin. So basically watchtower = 3k.

You guys signed up to play this hotseat for something different. So consider this as another thing that is different.

I have realised something regarding the one-fort-per-region-regardless-of-ownership-rule (yep... hyphens).

    Say, hipothetically:

A big northern region. For example, suppose I have a fort to the south of Moatt Cailin. Quite to the south. Not in the settlement's line of sight

Say, Stark mysteriously has a fort north.

But it might happen that neither of us would know because of fog of war. There would be two forts in the region, breaking the rule - but it would be an accident on both our parts. And we'd never know till it's too late and we'd both get fined

Could happen in any middle sized region, really. King's Landing, Highgarden, and others too.

    Thoughts?
