The 2012 Electoral College Prediction Contest is now OPEN

The official 2012 TWC Electoral College Prediction contest is now open. Maintaining a tradition going back a few elections, you may from now until 6 pm eastern time on election day make your prediction. The prize.....pure bragging rights. I know I've bragged often how I nailed the 2004 election on the head, and lamented I finished second in 2008 (curse you Missouri!!!).

Although I'm pretty sure who is going to win, and have already early voted, I am going to wait a few more days to make this year's electoral college prediction.

The earliest dated, closest predictor wins.

I think Obama might lose Florida (hopefully no one finds it). I think he will get my state, Colorado as well as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Iowa that will give him the win.

I just think it should be reformed. The Representative Votes should be cast district by district and the Senate votes should go to whoever gets the majority of Representative Votes. Also Washington DC should be added to Maryland as a congressional district, it shouldn't have 3 votes for a single city.

My reforms would be to assign 436 Electoral Votes along district outcomes followed by 100 Electoral Votes for the states to push the winners over the edge.

The office is basically Governor in Chief, he should be elected by the States, not by the people. The electoral college preserves the role of the States as Republics. Federalism and all that. A direct election ignores the structure of the Federation.

Nevada and Florida should probably be flipped, but yeah I would say a Romney win in Virginia and Colorado is entirely possible. Obama is up in every Nevada poll, and Romney is up in every Florida poll by about the same numbers.

I'll give it a bit before I give my predictions, but I amost expect Romney to get the popular vote. It will not be pretty if Obama wins on EC alone
