I know there have obviously been threads like these many times before and they've all fallen pretty quickly, but I figured what the hell? I'll give it a try! I was just wondering what it is about rock and metal that you love so much, what it is that drives you? Give us some bands and songs!!!

I just love rock and metal because it's so satisfying to listen to and it just completely liberates you. It takes away your troubles for 5 minutes, which is always good .

    My favorite groups:

Judas Priest - Quite possibly my favorite metal group, one of the first metal bands as well!
They just sounded so fresh and new for their opening years (early 70's).
My favorite songs by these guys would have to be:

    Painkiller - http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?p=...&vback=Results

Breaking the Law (obviously) - http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?p=...&vback=Results

    Turbo Lover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tvQmpID0fg

There's SO much more rock and metal that I love. The Beatles, Aerosmith, Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, The Scorpions, Accept, Van Halen etc. etc. Modern stuff like Breaking Benjamin, Tool and Godsmack as well.

Less about me, more about you, post your favs and tell us WHY rock and metal is so near-and-dear to you.

You obviously know what you're talking about. Those are all good songs. You ever hear of Breaking Benjamin?
I kind of doubt it because they haven't done any European tours yet, only American ones.

Here's a couple of their songs. (If you've played Halo 2 You've most likely heard them before, they did "Blow Me Away".)

So Cold (Abbridged Version) - http://www.ifilm.com/player/?ifilmId...3&refsite=7063

The Diary of Jane (Can't wait until their album Phobia hits on Aug. 8th) - http://grouper.com/video/MediaDetails.aspx?id=998147

yea those songs kick ass, metal gods is also a sick song.

NWOBHM was pretty awesome. america has topped the thrash/speed metal but motorhead and maiden were huge influences on the genre.

this could be my biased side talking but i do belive when it comes to rock/heavy metal i think british bands just completely own the genre i mean america has all the rap pop and such they can have that but we have the rock sharing with alot of the scandanvian bands *alot of them about*

now im not saying there aren't alot of good U.S. bands im sure there are

    anyone else agree

Long live the Almighty Maiden. I myself love Aces High and The Evil that men do.
Steve Harris is one of the bassists ever, wish i could play his riffs

Priest are brilliant. Saw them live in Manchester, AWESOME! Turbo LOver is their best song, Got to love the cheesiness of the Breakin the Law video, but Ram it Down has one amazing solo, Glen Tipton and K.K. Downing rule.

Halen, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC the list goes on.
I do love a large piece of Bon Jovi from time to time also.

Their imagination is poor, obsessed with the small details. A true Dreamer, I say, creates a grand scheme and then concentrates on the details. Somebody's gotta. I don't know what I'd do without metal. As long as I'm alive, I will NEVER let rock and metal die out. All this gansta rap **** that's out there today should be illegal. Look what it tells this world's youth to do. Join a crypt, join a blood, get girls pregnant (preferably as many as possible), kill everyone who dislikes you and everyone who you feel like killing. My god, it's not even MUSIC! At least in rock and metal you can be creative with your work. In rap it's all about the same thing over and over. Sex, violence, sex, violence, sex, violence, sex, violence, sex, violence, sex, violence, sex, violence. Oh yeah, did I mention violence? That's all that rap is about. You wonder about these guys and the people who listen to it. "Do you ever get bored?".

Anyway, about 5 weeks ago I was playing in my cousin's band, covering for his rhythm guitarist who is currently recovering from a broken wrist. We played all sorts of good stuff.
We played in a "Battle of the Bands" out in an open field in Andover, MA.

-Painkiller, Judas Priest (The place went nuts when we started playing, my cuz was insane on the drums, and his lead singer was hitting those high notes like nothin' It was so great!)

    -Breaking the Law, Judas Priest

    -So Cold, Breaking Benjamin

    -Breakdown, Breaking Benjamin

    -Sugarcoat, Breaking Benjamin

    -Believe, Breaking Benjamin

All of the Breaking Benjamin songs were absolute crowd scorchers, a huge mosh pit was formed during Breakdown. They loved it so much!

    -Back in Black, AC/DC

    -Dirty Deeds, AC/DC

We played a few more, I can't even remember.

Overall we were given the awards for the best choice of songs, best sense of rhythm, and best drums. Overall we came in 2nd place .

I am 18 years old and in school I never liked music at all, the people I would hang around with liked metal/rock I just never cateched on til I went to college were I got into it. I like Rock, Metal and sometimes Club Anthems to calm me down. Some of my favorite and artists are as follows.
    • Trivium,
    • Metallica,
    • 36 Crazy fists,
    • Evanescence,
    • Green Day,
    • Him,
    • Iron Maiden,
    • Slipknot,
    • System of a Down,
    • God Forbid,
    • Machine Head,
    • Rage againist the machine.
I also like old 80's music rock as if it was not for that we'd not have it today, also playing Grand Theft Auto Games on the PS2 got me into it as there'd have it on the radio's inside the cars. Where people think that if you like metal then you have to wear black is so wrong it's nor funny as I like it and I don't have any black clothing whatsoever. One thing I do not like and will never like is rap. It's like in my town if you listen to rap then your stupid and don't understand anything then think fighting is the way forward so you carry a pocket knife. I know thats Stereotyping but it's true.
