Build more stuff. Trust me, it's recruitable. They've been mopping up Iberian troops left and right.
Thats because Campanian is not Allied Troops, they come from the Oppidum.
I find it strange the modders take that attitude. Remember that becomes the case because in real life during the 2nd Punic War the Romans kiiled off or enslaved the Capuans for their revolt when they recaptured the city. Romans always had a jealousy of their rivalry anyway. However what if we dont enslave and finsih off Capua when we recapture it? Then it would not be unrealistic for campanian cavalry to exist. I think they need to keep open the possibility that they would still be available if we make different choices then the romans did. They are legit at begining of the campaign so after that we decide how history goes. Much like we can make Sparta into a power.
On a side not they should not have made Sparta so wealthy. It should have been a major challenge for them to conquer Greece but the modders thought Sparta should get a boost for balance reasons it seems. But during the campain some factions should be far more in dire straights then the others. Thats the chalenge of taking a smaller nation. Just my opinion. Not complaining at all just think that it would be nice if it was a bigger deal to succeed with the smaller nations. Syracuse is far too powerfull as well.

Cato, I think you make a very good point. With each game we create an alternate history. What if the Romans had decided that they liked campanian cav and wanted it for themselves? Just because that is not what happened does not mean it could not have happened.

The point is that, firstly, no normal cavalry should have the 'Frighten' ability (TBH the Praetorian Cav shouldn't either, nor really the rather incredible Exp+4 either).
Secondly that the Campanian Cavalry were better than the Roman cavalry for just one campaign, and never again thereafter. So, during the Early Republic there should just be either Roman Cavalry or Allied cavalry and the extra unit just isn't needed.
If we're into saving units, then the Latin Medium/Roman Extraordinarii could go too.
The intent, as I understand it, is to allow a 'version' of history and be as realistic as is practicable - not a completely alternate timeline.

Good point as always Lod Tedric. They are the coolest looking cav unit the romnas have though. Bummer to lose them. And Reading Livy's book 21-30 on the second Punic war they were mentioned many times. Ill miss them.
Play Capua, they have the Campanian cavalry as a main unit. But as Lord Tedric has said, our goal is to provide a fairly representative historical setting, and it really wouldn't be historical if Rome were to have the Campanians at their disposal. They were provided ONLY as an allied unit, and very shortly after the campaign starts, Capua sides with Hannibal and seals its fate.
Yet another historical issue is that Rome during this era depended almost entirely on allied or mercenary cavalry if they wanted or even HAD any good cavalry. This was true up to and even including Imperial times. So the player...regardless of how pretty the unit is....would start with an unhistorical situation if his Romans were to have good cavalry by default, because Rome's cavalry never was much good.
And finally, the rebellion of Capua is scripted into the campaign. So technically, in this instance, there is no way to have an 'alternate' history to that particular event.

yesss... Campanain cav is much better and should be more expansive then Latin cav but I'll tell you a secret about cav and the reason why they cost few... the Vanilla AI tends to recruit low cost units...![]()
