Every turn, for every foreign nation that is at war or in interesting circumstances, it will be rolled to see what they do, and how they fare in the war.
Example:
In the year 1168, the Roman Empire is at war with the Turks. The Romans attacked the Turks, so they roll first.
Roman Empire rolls 20
Turks roll 1.
The Romans capture 19 territories in Anatolia, pushing the Turks back.
Turks roll 10,
Romans roll 3
the Turks however manage to recapture 7 of their regions.
Another example:
the Roman Empire has been restored, and the Patriarchies are in their place. Who do the Romans invade?
A list of likelihoods will be made.
Papacy (obvious reasons, plus to mend the great schism): 1-5
Sicily (foothold in Italy) : 6-11
Africa (Justinians reconquest) : 12- 17
Croatia (reclaim the Balkans) : 18-20.
The Romans roll 2. Thus they go to war with the papacy.
Every 5 provinces captured, there is a roll done to see if they surrender. The roll goes up by 2 every five provinces captured by either side.
