The road past York was hard and long, and after many arduous days of travel through the lowlands of Scotland, Louis finally reaches Edinburgh to meet with the King of Scotland on behalf of Alfred II.

[Trot]

Guards approach the emissary. Who seeks audience with the King.

[Gandalfus]

I, Prince Louis of France come on behalf of Alfred II of England.

[Trot]

He is disarmed and lead to the throne room.

[Gandalfus]

He kneels.
Great king William of Scotland, I come from England with an offer from the good king Alfred. He wishes to put aside the differences that the Normans had with the scots, and restore the peace that the Saxons had with the Scottish kingdom.

[Trot]

He looks up and laughs. Do you take me for a fool. You Englishmen never want peace. Do you think I don't know of your war in Wales.

[Gandalfus]

Your Majesty, we attacked them because they disrespected good catholic traditions. My king wants to prove England's faithfulness by organising an alliance, and perhaps a marriage.

[Trot]

Really a marriage. So your king can murder me and claim Scotland for himself.

[Gandalfus]

My king is married. He offers his granddaughter as a betrothed for one of your grandsons, and his son for your daughter.

[Trot]

No! No marriage. I will accept a peace. If it lasts for a year, I will then considera marriage agreement.

[Gandalfus]

He mused.
Then it is agreed. One question, my king. Do you plan to take up the cross anytime soon? I believe the Pope is thinking about a crusade.

[Trot]

My faith will not be decided by some old fool.

[Gandalfus]

He bowed, and left.
