I honeslty haven't had that much experience fighting them but I imagine they are to be treated the same way as Gaesetai. Pepper them with sling bullets, then give them some cheap unit as fodder, charge in their back with cavalry. You can also use skirmisher cavalry to tire and bring their number down.
they have more armor than gaestatae so are harder to take out with missles. they kill about one guy every two seconds.
Because of their low shiled defence, slinger is really useful against them. Other versatile methods, such as elephant/heavy cavaly charge, are also useful. And the best unit to abosorb their damage is the phalanx in their front.

AP Missile weapons (Slings are good; Pila/equivalent are also good).
Pikes.
Swarm them under with good-Lethality weapons (Axes, Thracian Peltasts). AP helps.
Fix them with something that won't crumble immediately, then hit them with shock cavalry.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

and sorry for double post but what faction used them against you? Im curious because i have never seen ai field them before except rebels and I fought them when they had no general so my tactic above ^ might not work as well against a 10 star super ai general

It was the massive Rebel stacks in ALEXEB with like three gold chevrons and silver armor lol. I found the best way is to not engage them at all and sit back with ballistae. same goes for elephants, from now on im leaving at least two units of ballistae in every army i make
also as you say a full frontal charge with shock calvary does the trick as well
