Transfiguration with James Elvric

[Raglan]

James had - as acting headmaster - been able to arrange the timetables so that he was able to teach both Charms and Transfiguration. Now it was hardly any secret - at least amoung the staff anyway - that he was hardly competent at anything other than charming. But the students needed teaching, and as noone more capable had stepped up it was down to him. He'd had to spend considerable amount of time figuring out how to teach the class - extensive notes left by Roman Hernandez had at least helped - but he thought he would be able to do it. Maybe not to the standard the children deserved, but too a far better degree than they would otherwise get. Following his charms start, he writes on the board.

Further more the spells Reparifarge, Evanecso, and Ducklifors will be featured prominently in studies. It is recommenced that students take to to familiarise themselves with the spells, their uses and the theory of practice. If not necessarily master it - practising outside of supervision is discouraged until a certain familiarity with the spells is achieved.

Nigel enters and takes a seat.

Violeta enters, having come from her Ancient Runes class so she is still reading on the varying runes as she walks in and takes her seat, before eventually switching to Transfiguration.

How do they expect us to learn a damn thing here when the professors refuse to take their jobs seriously? Four different Transfiguration professors in five years?

James turns to the class

Now, i know i'm not who you were expecting this year. But as its your owl year we have alot of work to do. Professor Hernandez did however leave very good notes as to what would need to be covered this year. So i'm going to leap straight in. Now, open your copies of Intermediate Transfiguration to page 13. I trust everyone has a copy?

Right, as you can see it begins talking about the Evanecso spell. I would like everyone to read the text book, then write a seven inch summery on how it is used, and when to use it.

Evanesco is used to vanish living or non living things. The hardness of the spell intensifies with the complexity of the animal you are trying to use it upon. When using it on an invertebrate, such as a snail, it is much easier and simpler than to use it upon a higher mammal, such as a kitten, this is because of the make up of the creatures and what you have to disappear with them. This spell is considered complex and is only taught when people are older.

The vanishing charm is particularly useful for getting rid of troublesome potions, or potions that have not been properly brewed. By simply vanishing the potion, it is ensure that it cannot release noxious fumes or burn through the cauldron.

Standing, he asks

Nigel shakes his head no.

No, but it would be useful to learn. Is it hard to perform, professor?

Right, now then, everyone up. There is a small glass orb on everyone's desks. I want you to study the board, and practice the spell. Those who manage to make their balls disappear by the end of the lesson will earn house points. Follow the instructions carefully, transfiguration is much more exact than charms. Which is why i have them on the board for you.

James proceeds to walk around and watch the students as they practice.

Atticus rose and levitated his orb a bit closer. He liked levitating things, it just made things easier. Finally, placing it in front of him he simply waved his wand and said "Evanesco"

Nigel looked hard at the ball infront of him first. After this he took his wand from his bag and pointed it at the orb, after this he did a quick swipe of his wand and said, "Evanesco," at the same time.
