    Looking at that incredible new gameplay video, can anyone think of any other point in gaming history when things improved so much at once? I was blown away by the scale - reminded me of the massive cities in World in Conflict, except massively more detailed, and the engine is also dealing with all the effects and thousands of troops fighting at once.

    I know it's scripted, but considering that's pre-alpha, I think CA are well on their way to delivering their promise for a truly immersive gameplay experience. Whatever genre a gamer usually plays, I don't see how they could look at that and not want to buy Rome 2.

    C'mon Sith, it was 'gameplay'. A little bit of optimism please. You are one of the most respected member of the forum. Your opinion counts a lot.

    I'm just glad it's coming out after I've finished my postgrad. It will mean I will be able to justify buying a new computer to play it, and actually playing it.

    I'm studying an ancient history degree, so I'll justify playing it as revision of sorts... There goes my education...

    You`ve got to look at things with a cool head.

    This is like scripting a sample movie. It`s likely one run through scene that plays the same way in historical battles and that`s it. I`ll bet by the time it`s released you won`t get anything like this in the normal campaign which the player controls.

    In fact the whole thing looks uncontrolled until the actual battle begins on the battlements.

    I`ll eat my jaded hat if the game is even 2\3rds anything like this in a dynamic SP campaign game, meaning: Setting up the attack, doing a sea-land invasion with ships simulataneously with all that stuff going on, then rushing to siege towers and making the walls with even a little guy turning back and saying `ROME` before it hits- All under your general control against that huge backdrop of a city you really can invade. No.

    Meh, I could be wrong. But I don`t see it.

    I didn't really see anything at all "revolutionary" about the gameplay. It looked impressive, but that is kind of the point, to impress people and hype them up for the game enough to purchase it at full price or even pre-order that bad boy.

    Revolutionary in this context would be taking an old system and doing something completely new with it to achieve a more desired result. Everyone knew that when ship combat was introduced eventually there would be combined land/sea battles. Just like I'm confident that one day we will see air battles (if the total war franchise is around long enough) and with that eventually air/land battles.

    Game looks sexy, and they seem to be improving - in the form of streamlining - a lot of the major features, but I just wouldn't say it's really a revolution of the series like the original Rome was compared to medieval and shogun.

    Revolution = new engine.

    Shogun, Rome and Empire were the revolutionary titles. That doesn't mean they were the best ones though. The revolutionary games often come with a slew of bugs and all that are addressed in the games built on the same engine.

    For that reason I think we can expect Rome II to be a perfection of warscape.
