    Things to keep in mind!

    • Pre alpha Code(Meaning graphics aren't optimized and some animations aren't in yet)
    • 40% Higher budget for Rome 2 (awaiting numbers)
    • Comes out in the 2nd half of 2013
    • Focus given to make it scalable(Able to run optimized on lower end hardware)

The scale is amazing. Simply incredible.

In terms of the unit fighting, I have 2 queries...

At 7:16 the Roman soldiers charge then seem to melt into each other and the enemy, I certainly don't get a sense of the disciplined meat grinder.

At 7:55 into the video you will see a line of soldiers running in single file - it doesn't seem realistic, more like an AI "feature".

Great vid and thx for posting.

Exactly my thoughts. Though as the guy said they still have a lot of work to do when it comes to combat, and because it's way pre-alpha, I'm sure they'll fix those little flaws

I also feel the same way. CA really needs to fix the pathfinding, I don't want to see another Medieval 2 where it is just blobs of soldiers with no discipline fighting each other.

    CA FIX YOUR PATHFINDING!!!

Other than that, it looks great.

Pretty good. But, it could be better. Their pathing AI got a lot better, happy to see that. They need to increase the scale of warfare though. It just looks silly the way it currently is...

I hope CA is reading this. The only complain i found is that the combat appeared to lack punch the units didn't seem heavy but rather shallow and paper like. When they moved the moved awkwardly and the charge just looked like two stage props walking towards each other. Sorta like Melee in Empire.

I hope it is just me seeing it wrong or Pre-alpha issues rather then CA design.

Nail on the head. The actual gameplay when released will be so much better - this is alpha, and for an early stage to be this impressive, really shows the potential

Looks very very good. The horses look a bit like they're on speed, though. Their legs are moving almost eerily fast

    Its awesomeness

the demo footage is short though, can't see wrong just yet

seems like its all scripted through entire the demo but still awesome!

so far they present the footage very perfectly

Its a pre-alpha build and it already looks great, some of the new ideas have alot of potential as well. being such an early build some of it is likely scripted, but that's to be expected with a product so far from completion.

i hope that they step back from Apple / Samsung like behave and tell us more about sold copies so we can get a better view how big the community actually is.

The video is great - especially for Alpha. I posted it on the official TWC Rome 2 Group at Steam and Rome Total War Player and Rome 1 Gamehub aswell, so people get a clue of what is comming up.

however i hope Rome will not be just Siege of Carthage as all material we have atm is going just around that battle *joking*

@boxleitner: all units seem to move very fast. they definetly need to take out speed! a lot of people are complaining about that. Rome 1 was fast enough!

i watched it over and over.

2 things that came into my mind, take it as good suggestions:

I KNOW IT IS STILL ALPHA

1 Please replace this sound of the trumpets on commanding units that we heard in Shogun 2. They make me mad.
2 In case of capture points it would be really really cool if you have to capture and hold a certain point that enables you then to get into your harbour and getting more reinforcements from ships directly into the city
3 Pathfinding seems still to be a problem
4 Unit movement is still as fast as in Shogun 2. Slow it down FGS.

still watching... it is so epic and brilliant. thanks for that insight CA!

please watch out you do not break "marketin promises" again. in the video the commentator said something like "we try our best to make the game the same minimum spec as Rome but we cannot guarantee it." << this sounds much more otherwise as you stated proud first: "playable regardless your specs"

however i wont mind. my specs are well enough.

Honestly, I expected the animations to look a lot better...
Well, considering its pre-alpha I guess its too early to judge.

I don't mind lack of animations as that is pre-alpha but that ship artillery seemed incredibly strong reaching further than the land artillery behind the walls. Also the amount of flaming projectiles and medieval style wall bombardment to get a breech is disappointing. Would much prefer seeing dirt ramps, sapping, etc. Hopefully the damaged walls from siege means this is historical battle but still it shows some cool effects for cities that fight off a siege and don't repair the walls.

The speed of units is again quite high apparently, especially the cavalry looked weird. The destruction of buildings within the city with people falling off was interesting, I just wish the pathfinding was good enough that ruined buildings could be used as a pathway to go around blocked corner. Then there could be a real street fight with ships coming into a city harbor to give more accurate artillery fire and destroy buildings opening a path around defending units.

Overall I think the biggest disappointment is the apparent ability to destroy walls from ship artillery. Would be much more interesting if the ship artillery simply gave covering fire keeping enemy off walls maybe capable of destroying wall turrets/arrow houses but to bring down strong walls like Carthage? Ugh, hopefully it is just to show the concept and won't be able to actually happen during a campaign.

It's pre-alpha and it already looks great. It looks smoother and more realistic and epic than all the previous titles, and I have my hopes up.

Troop movement is a bit uncanny valley with the eerie perfect sychronisation in their steps, and their ruler-straight formations when they stand still, and the occasionally random shield raising, but it's pre-alpha so whatever; I was just blown away by how huge and detailed the map was.

Being PRE-alpha, it's perfect. Very well done CA and keep it this way!
