Romans need to fight like Romans in Rome 2, it was never accurate
The Roman Legion fought as a unit in formation, their sword was a stabbing sword, I never saw the stabbing motion in Rome Total War or any Mods. They would only not fight in that stabbing motion if their formation was broken and a lot of their men were dying.

There are actually lots of mods that add a stabbing animation for RTW. And as far as I can see, Roman soldiers will keep formation in battle in Rome 2.

I've seen the Romans stab with their gladii a lot in vanilla RTW. They slash with it too, but they stab and jab still.
