    Default Conquering the wilderness

A big problem in Rome Total War is that regions with forests, deserts or steppes are often more easier to conquer than regular regions. This is because there is no disadvantages for invading armies in these regions and the factions in those regions are generally poor, weak, barbarian factions.

I was thinking about how CA could solve this. Should these regions have higher attrition for foreign armies? Should the barbarians get more revenue from their home regions than Romans and Greeks? Should they fight better on their home turf? What do you think?

Perhaps one thing is invisibility the forest provides in S2. Native units would most likely make better use of that, since I believe Roman, Greek, and other armies would like to set up a nice formation and conduct the battle out in the open. Also the forest will break up the traditional formations making their tactics harder to pull off.

As for the desert and steppes I think there should be much higher attrition/dissertation in those areas. Maybe in the desert higher fatigue in battle for the invaders.

Is that where your Legionnaire ROTC officers desert to pursue their doctorate?

Hills even with roads should slow armies alot with native armies getting a smaller penalty. Roads should also be less common in forests though Romans did some deforestation in Gaul most of the land was already clear compared to Germany.

Some good ideas there. In general I think all factions should have slight movement bonuses in regions they've held for a certain amount of time, to represent local knowledge of geography and the fastest way of getting around.

I like the idea, as long as such an advantage wouldn't be made too exaggerated

I think everything you pointed out at the end of the OP would compensate well for this.

We should be allowed to build cites and towns if have enough control over the area and a large population
