Default Windows 7 Build 7600 not genuine.

I recently re installed windows for the second time and entered my product key. I don't know if I entered it wrong or if the tech gods hate me, but unlike last time this time after I connected the internet windows didn't automatically validate my copy of Windows 7.

I have my windows CD in hand.

    1) Where do I re-enter the product code to validate my copy of windows 7

2 If that doesn't work for whatever reason *I will obviously post and elaborate as to what specifically went wrong* , is there any other recourse?

Thanks an advance TWC, I know I can count on you guys.

You can manually enter the code under system properties by right clicking on computer in the start menu and choosing properties.

i hope you didn't change your motherboard because apparently the Windows serial is somehow tied to the motherboard. i remember when i built my system early last year, i installed Windows, later replaced the motherboard, tried to install it again and i had to call Microsoft tech support so they could reset it. this was with Vista, not sure if they changed it for 7.

If it is genuine, and all else doesn't work, you can find solutions online that are safe. I wouldn't feel bad at all in using them given your situation. Even if you changed the motherboard. That's just ridiculous.

And no, Im not condoning piracy. This is something separate and that has been used by people in the same situation by people who owned genuine copies.

i know what mr mouth is talking about and it does work wonders when Microsofts activation is being a pain in the behind. never had to use it on my personal rigs but did need to do it on a couple HP laptops that would not take the serial printed on the sticker on the underside of the unit.
