Default a question about naval support in battle.

I've been wondering if more heavily armed ships or a larger stack of ships would give me more shots or a more powerful bombardment? from what I've seen so far it doesn't but i thought I'd ask.

The more ships you have definitely gives you a greater amount of offshore artillery. You need about six medium to large ships or more to see the difference on the battlefield. I think guns do matter too, but not as much as number of ships. You get a maximum of around 5 or 6 bombardment (if I remember right) which will usually guarantee you a win on any battlefield.

I've found that naval fire support tends to cap out after a certain point, at around 50 shells in a volley. I'm probably wrong though, I don't often use fleets above corvette size.

Actually I once had a naval bombardment of 102 shells if I remeber correctly.... This was while playing as the Choshu:O

Interesting. Like I said, I normally just use armored corvettes for my fleets rather than full size frigates. The AI rarely seems to produce anything particularly hefty.
