After decades of fighting, the Farc and the government appear to believe victory on the battlefield is impossible, and are holding talks in Oslo aimed simply at ending the conflict.
Ofcourse, most of us who are intrested in South-America and Colombia did have read much about the FARC and the civil war. In fact, this is one of the longest civil war's around.
Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012...ace-farc-talksSince a peak in the late 1990s, when they fielded 20,000 fighters, the Farc's strength has waned after some of its leaders were killed or captured in a government military onslaught, which frightened hundreds of low- and mid-level fighters into deserting.
The group is now led by a less hawkish, more pragmatic generation of commanders; Colombia's government, under Santos, is also more moderate than that of his predecessor, Alvaro Uribe, who vowed but failed to crush the rebels militarily.
Find it also funny that Duchie Tanja Nijmijer is also going to Oslo to negotiate.
The peace negotiations must put an end to almost fifty years armed conflict in Colombia. After initial talks in Oslo moves the delegation to Havana to smoke a good peace sigar with always peace intended Castro and Chavés.
What do you think TWC, is the FARC sirious about their ''peace'', and could this bring peace in one of the longest conflicts of the last 100 years?
