I loved the performance of NTW but since NTW soldier models have looked
decidely like water coloured paintings.
ETW was the last true 3D solid colour and bump mapped looking models... when they had all the performance issues.

If you mean the unit cards, I like them. I think they look a lt better than those silly looking 3d portraits. Otherwise I really can't see the difference between Empire and NTW unit models in battles.
I see nothing wrong there, what the problems with unit reduced into sprites?
Performance wise
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.
My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.
ETW units looks far too bright and artificial for my taste. In NTW they made soldiers look more gloomy, and normal. What a battlefield should be like.

The empire total war models themselves just seem to be more 3D and have more "real" detail without relying on tricks.
Its like the napoleon models were made very simple and then relied on effects to finish them off.
for instance below the boots look like they are drawn on the napoleon models but seem to be physical 3D models on ETW in the top picture.
Also notice the difference in colours? The Napoleon picture looks a lot softer and more blury....
more pastel.

I take SUCH issue with this mate.
Firstly, I sincerely hope you are not referring to the soldiers we see in Rome 2, seeing as that is the forum you are posting in. to do so would be the dumbest thing possible. If you need to ask why, 12 months before release, then....
Secondly, you have put up two pictures, saying that one is ETW, and the other is NTW. I can tell you that the second picture is NOT NTW, and is instead a mod for and earlier total war about the Napoleonic era. I'm sure you must know this, so don't think you can convince people about this using "evidence" such as that

Don't worry about that screenshot then and just pay attention to the others direct from my computer. That is why I posted them.
The point of this post (even though it is early days) is to point out that Rome2 is looking like right now (I know its alpha but bear with me) like napoleon and shogun which imho are decidely inferior graphically to Empire total war.
The "trend" suggests this will continue with rome2 and the gameplay footage recently shown shows that they are indeed on this track.
I sincerely hope it changes in the now less than (i hope) 12 months until rome2 is released.
I want empires models graphics back in the new roman game CA is doing.
The whole purpose of this thread is to show people what I mean.
Can anybody but me tell the difference? Am I just crazy?
Also please look at this link. I am sorry but it looks like this company (that I admit looks dodgy) got it wrong. My mistake. Now don't worry about that image and just look at the ones I posted from my machine.

If anything the detail on unit models has gone up... The textures in ETW may be sharper but that doesn't mean they are better. Not really very fair comparison shots either, NTW is clearly on low detail there.
The lower screenshot is from Napoleonic: Total War, a mod for RTW....

ETW models are also too complex, much more than they need to be, and they are also fairly low quality, which is sad. The ETW models also gave a lot of performance issues, so they were not good in any way compared to S2 and NTW.
And yeah, next time actually post a pic of NTW, not a Rome 1 mod![]()

We went from Empire in the top pic to napoleons models in the bottom one.
The ETW ones are very sharpe, the napoleon one below is less sharp. The Empire models simply have more detail.
The other thing that CA did to the game from napoleon onwards is that when you zoomed out you lost detail very very quickly and all the models seemed to turn black. Fine but it was not like that in Empire. IIRC in Empire you zoom out and you still get to see the battle in all its detail.
I noticed in the ROME2 video that zooming out that models very quickly turned into black shadows instead of men. I simply love looking closely at the fights and also enjoy the fidelity at higher distances.
Compared to this in Empire. Empire's models just look awesome in comparision.

Same resolution, same computer with everything turned up on each game. Trying to find like unit compared to like unit as well.
It just seems to me like a lot of detail was taken out since napoleon came out.
Its just easier to tell because the periods are so similar.

No mods. Completely default game. Which has the stronger, colours, textures, effects and models?
Case in point here is the painted on buttons on the napoleon total war coats. Something that would be bumped or on model in Empire.
