Shogun 2 total war is crashing on me :/ ?

Greetings, im new to the forum here and ive been meaning to join sooner. But i have been having trouble getting my computer to run shogun 2.

I will start with my PC specs

-amd phenom quad core 2.29Ghz
-1TB 7200rpm seagate hard drive
-3071MB ram
-windows vista 32
-AMD HD 6850GPU

Symptom: When i start the game it sits at the very first title/loading screen for a good while and than goes to the game menu. No problems here in the menu, graphics look fine. maxed out (without directx 11, becouse my PC is having issues with getting that installed also) If i click on custom battle and do my setup than start the battle it can go for about 10 minutes or more untill it crashes to desktop. In campaign however if i am about to get into a battle and i click the symbol on the screen that lets u begin the battle it crashes instantly. either way it shows a box that says shogun total war 2 has stopped working.


My PC used to run it just fine untill i installed a new hard drive.(seagate barracuda internal HD, 1TB, 64MBcache,7200RPM) So i am thinking this could be a possibility. i reformated my computer the best i knew how. Also lost my vista 64 so i am using 32. (keep in mind im not that computer smart).Perhaps its a problem with the OS

Next thought was, maybe my graphics card driver is not working. I updated my graphics card through the AMD auto driver detect software. Than i downloaded the AMD vision control center but it does not open and returns an error message " amd control center: host is no longer working".. Also i have tried installing directx 11 and it just does not seem to try. i am currently directx10.

Things i have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled game multiple times.

Uninstalling GPU device and all drivers. than reinstalling. no change

Uninstalling google chrome and running steam as administrator. no change.

go to c:/ users right clicking my computers name. properties. than unchecking hidden and applying to all. than checking and doing it again. hitting ok and than trying to open my amd CCC. no cigar again.

Next thought was to wipe the hard drive and start over.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If you need more info let me know

That is what i did..

So i did the sp1 and 2. My update system just wouldn't install them. It would claim to have installed but after restart they were back in the upgrade windows section.. So i had to install a stand alone.. But i got it.. Game doesnt crash as much now, but it still does. More so in multi player.. any ways here is the diag

Also some other drivers dont seem to work. Dont know if it would relate to this some how.. My razer keyboard anansi driver cannot detect my keyboard and doesnt let me use the special setup screen for it.

www.realtek.com.tw and try installing the latest High Definition Audio codecs.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238484 will be needed.
Afree copy of Game Booster will help.

i have synapse for my mouse. For my keyboard i installed the driver assuming it would become apart of my synapse but it hasn't and the driver doesnt even detect the keyboard. I think i did something wrong in the reformatting process. Computer keeps telling me to reboot in the start menu for updates and tried to install 110 updates

Yes, install the RealTek's from their website. they are more up todate.

I don't have their keyboard so I can't help you with it. You may have to uninstall them, use a registry cleaner, reboot, and reinstall. You may get by using Microsoft's Intelli-drivers.

Not really. SP2 was released 2006 or 2007 and there have been that many per month since SP2's realease along with IE9 and .Net 4 and their updates.
I had 14 important updates waiting for me this month for Win 7.
