Unlike previous prize winners from China, this man is not a dissident of the Chinese government. Thus, reception by the Chinese government and state run media over this news has been overwhelmingly positive, and his victory is celebrated as a triumph by the CCP. This man, however, does has his fair share of criticism towards the CCP, as for the past several years he has successfully walked the very fine line between exposing societal problems in China and abiding by CCP laws, never targeting the party directly. By playing the balancing game for so long, he has managed to write on topics that for most other Chinese writers, would mean jail time or at least censorship of their work.
