Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

I'm very interested in seeing how things turn out here now with the people who don't want to be included removed. I think starting over with a new poll was the best choice for handling the situation, instead of trying to keep the old poll but freeing up the people who voted for those other two so that they could vote again (if that was even possible in this poll system), and certainly better than not letting people who voted for them lose their votes entirely. Good work in handling the situation guys. There are a number of very deserving submissions here to be sure, and there are a number of really cool units that aren't playable yet in their respective mods, but that I look forward to seeing eventually. I hope everyone will be satisfied with the results in the end.

That honors not only Gos, but RoP. I'll direct him to this topic once he has returned from vacation. Will be a great motivation for him.

I had requested that my unit be changed to this one before the poll went up, could somebody please change the saxon to this because i think this one reflects my abilities better.

    Looks good ....

Though I would reccomend all the organizers to make use only of ingame units , it rends better and have a more fair ground to be judged .... you know in max u can render in different ways and usually things can look better there than ingame .....

I *wish* I could supply an in-game image of the one I supplied for a nominee. Sometimes it's not possible for us who are nominating people.

Well some of us do not know fancy tricks for better lighting in max, so a render will do, as the unit i posted will not likely be ingame for a while as ive got other things to do.

Prom has got a point. But there is a problem with in-game shots as well. "In-game" does not always equals "in-game", for example if someone uses a mod changing RTW's lighting, the unit's textures look different. Moreover, there are some photoshop tricks for editing the screen shot as well, which are hardly notable.

The only 100% secure way of comparing the artworks is making their files public, which I strongly object.
I think, showing the renders is ok as long as there is no heavy edit.

No is not a matter of tricks only , but also a matter of illuminations renders of the game like for example how well is handled the subdivision surfaces , the optimization for the game , the skinning of the unit in game animation etc ... the unit in render could be not skinned well to work properl y in game , could not act well at the ingame lightining etc .... so I think its a must to have only samples from ingame units....oh btw a good point of judge would also be that the unit is lod provided or not , since it is a feature that most of the modders don't care and people don't see , but it is a great help for performances.....

Btw it doesnt matter if someone alters the lightning in game since the unit will always react the same way , if you want to change the lightning then you should do if you like but this shouln't prejudicate the unit effectiveness as long as it works and looks good is fine ....

In-game examples I agree would be the best. as Myydral once said to me, some people can make great look renders others can also make great looking in game units. Or something to that effect. Creating something that looks great in game is entirely different from something that looks great in render. A good example, the Babylonian general with the blue shirt, it looks a amazing (maybe borderline over saturated blue), stick him in the game engine and he will look alot different. And with modern vid cards using AA and AF as well as gloss the quality of the texture can remain with the in-game shot.

Different resolutions and setting in RTW will always make the unit look different, plus the lighting in RTW is worse than in BI which would put people who only have RTW at a disadvantage.

I suggest renders from max taken on default settings, like the one i just posted. There are no fancy tricks with that. I just hit the render button.

Then set a resolution for everyone to use (no different then the max settings) no tricks special trick to implement AA or AF either. Units look almost 100% different in game from renders. BI adds shadows thats about it lighting wise its not very different. If you want the same lighting as BI download 1.5. There really is no excuse not to do in-game renders other than being afraid the unit won't look as good.

Getting an ingame shot doesn't take that long at all. All of five minutes to edit the 2 (1 if you have an appropriate existing unit) text files load the game and press print screen.

    I'm voting/supporting my 'captain', "wlesmana"! He's SUPERB modeler/skinner!...

    BUT!...

What FANTASTIC skinners, some of these lads are!

    Let's see:

    - Zhuge_Liang
    - Dirty Peasant
    - Adherbal
    - Shogo
    - Hoggy
    - Balbor
    - Spartan_Warrior

We are not here to criticse, but to praise! It's an awards thread!

(BTW - no... "Ellysian Warrior" or "Idomeneas" skins/models & candidacy? How come? When a review was up from "Hegemonia" by these two guys, the forum was SHOCKED!... Now, nothing?)

P.S.: Nice skins, my ex-co-member "Spirit_of_Rob" did... Troll removed. There is no need to discuss other members' contributions. - imb39

There was a nominations thread - a simple post there and they would have been included.
Also, please do not turn this thread into what the previous one became. Voicing your opinion on the matter at hand is fine, but bad mouthing contestants will not be tolerated.

Can I strongly advise NO ONE to discuss what was nominated and why... Just let the nominations stand for themselves. if someone has an issue, then take it to PMs. personally, I have been saddened by displays if 'one up man ship' - imb39

I think that the unit posted is not representative of the work of Luciano B , I think those give him more justice .... notice the cure for the detail but also the lightness and balancement of not overload the unit with unnecessary detailing , leaving the model light in polygons and well painted with a sober trait but a very precise too at the same time ... here is my favourite little selection but there are many more in the Peninsula Italica site....

He makes simple units look really entertaining too see while keeping its simplicity balanced with an unequalled beauty , I love his style ... to describe it I would say :
Simple , Precise , sober! All this together makes a very beautifull balancement.... Its sort of the concept of the Japanese Gardens , or the beautiness of the emptiness , to balance the details is not something easy to do , and to many occour to overdetail or underdetail an unit .... he has the sence of the measure ....

Well some of us don't know how to make lods so are pretty useless in that respect. If i have time i will get an ingame shot of my unit, it should look good ingame, every other unit i've made has looked good in render and on the battlefield.

I have two pictures of my unit ingame in my thread in the featured artists gallery, but they are very small. it would be very difficult for me to put them in the game again as i'm constantly working on the final version of troy.

P.S please update the picture in the poll.
