Look at post #9 of that thread. The poster said that,
"Total War Shogun 2 has great benefits from faster ram (10fps from 1600-2133), so I'd invest in faster ram if you play it."
This true?

No. People on TWC have done extensive tests. 2-3 fps is the most you will net. When you think about how RAM works, it makes sense. It isn't doing a hell of a lot during battles. Not enough for that type of improvement, anyways.

memory bandwidth is indeed important however CPU clock speed and IPC still matter more
example going from a 2500k at 4.4ghz to a 3770k at 4.4 ghz i saw a 20% increase in CPU limited senarios,
clocking memory like the above i saw just a 5% increase while pushing to 4.6GHz on the CPU took me to 25% over the previously overclocked 2500k.
essentially yes if you have money to waste and want the best performance
2133 mhz memory a heavily overclocked Ivy Bridge CPU together will give you far better results than anything else on the market.
CPU: i7 3770K 4.6GHz / i7 4930K 4.4 GHz / i7 4770K 4.6 GHz
CPU HSF: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Pro / Review Samples / Review Samples
MOBO: Biostar TZ77XE4 / ASRock X79 Fatal1ty Champion / MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming
RAM: Mushkin Redlines 2x4GB 1866 MHz / 4x4GB Gskill 2133 MHz / 2x4GB Kingston 2400 MHz
GPU: Integrated / GTX 780 / HD 5450 Passive
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050w 80+ GOLD / NZXT Hale82 650w Modular / same

HDD: 160 HDD / 512GB SSD + 120GB SSD + 5.5TB HDD / 60gb SSD
Thanks for the replies, I didn't believe it myself but just wanted to make sure. Impressive gains nevertheless. I didn't know that faster RAM could really add an entire 5% to the fps. Really makes me think about upgrading everything.
? Impressive gains from Ram upgrades. NO.
Cpu+gpu and then ocing cpu. I'd say getting an ssd over faster ram further up the pecking order..ofc dont skimp on ram.
Having good/faster Ram is only really important to help you oc cpu and gain stability. (well it is for me).
I'll actually (and am doing) run my Ram slower than its stock speed so that I can overclock easier.
it's maybe 5fps max...dunno if you call it impressive.
but i agree you want to get the most out of your setup but concentrate on your cpu+gpu that's where the beef comes.
and pleas if you do get a 4000 dollar machine put some pics up here or a build log(tbh though I wouldnt spend that much there's a point where you dont really need to spend more...unless ofc you are talking x3 gpu's but then i wouldnt due to sli/xfire issues and not every game scales brilliantly).

Honestly, I say 4k machine because that's how much I have saved up right now. Probably two thousand max towards the components and the rest just to save. I'm from a poor family so this is one of those rare times I get to splurge in my life. I've never modded a case or sleeved a cable in my entire life so I don't know if my build log would be interesting at all... But in a few months(waiting for dat 7xx and 8xxx series) I'll post one if I get the courage![]()
