    Default Baktria!

Hey all, I'm medium-new at this mod, been playing Romani and having a great deal of fun. I haven't had a good challenge from a Total War title pre-gunpowder in a while and this is providing it. (By challenge, I mean: in the span of a year, Carthage snuck a full stack past two spies and an invading army, and said army was just lost with all hands when a rebel fleet sunk it 2 millimeters from shore...)

Now I want to try out Baktria because the loading screens make them look very interesting. Anyone got tips for playing as them? I checked out the starting strategy guide but it is rather paltry.

Just played Baktria early this year. The Seleucids are tough--even on VH/M--but watch out for Saka Rauka. Try not to go against them early on; leave the steppes for later. Other than that, take a couple cities early on (bear in mind your early alliances) and build up the economy for the challenging campaign ahead. Lotsa fun!

India. I cannot stress enough, you need to take india. ts cities are rich, and its easily defensible should the seleucid juggernaught force you out of your starting location

Success in Baktria still eludes me. If I turtle up, one city cannot have enough profit to make a propper defence once they come for it (and they do come for Baktra). If I attack and take the nearest three Seleucid cities, then I cannot hold them for long as my resources are stretched between defending those three cities and no money is left for making buildings.

The only viable way I see in defending is hiring horse archers, essentially pretending you are Pahlava or Saka Rauka and just shred incoming armies before they reach your cities. Other than that, I can't see how to play Baktria without using money cheats.

There are some useful notions there but it all depends on having more movement points than you have in EB. That's the main issue I have with Baktria, right after lack of funds: it takes forever to get anywhere and if you have a negative income, you are broke before you reach the next city.

I did manage to kick Seleucid's ass and then they accepted peace treaty with me. I didn't expect that. So my Baktrian campaign is back on the menu. LEt's see how far I make it this time...
