Default Teutonic Order always so passive?

    Hi there,

I played some SS campaigns in the past....and now I play as HRE and I wonder, is the Teutonic Order always that passive on campaign map?

As for my current campaign, I got quite a huge empire as HRE, getting like 15 a 20k income per turn and its increasing rapidly. I often give the TO 20, 30 or 50k gold as a gift. They got like 2 regions and they are at war with Lithuania (one region left) but still they dont make the finishing move on them. I basically fund their whole army, lol.

In case you wonder why I aid TO that much.....i just love them! Their Ritterbruders are epic! Why I play as HRE and not as TO? TO doesnt offer me enough unit diversity. So its just fun to have them as my allies for now and boost the hell outta them.....but they dont use my gifts quite well

You experience the same with them in your campaign?

They have often been passive in my campaigns as well, only once they destroyed Lithuania and managed to at least take some territory, but most of the time they stick with their starting positions, maybe they take Estonia region and Vilnius, after that they just turtle along, they have enough strong armies to defend the cities they have, so no one can really attack them, but they dont attack themselves either.

Yes, they don't do very well without some help.

Crusading early against the Lithuanians and giving them some land will give them some ground.

But in my recent HRE campaign I had to help them militaristically against the Danes, Polish and Russians to keep them alive and kept funding them like crazy and after like 100 turns they started doing rather well. They really couldn't even finish the Lithuanians who were hiding in their last settlement and kept sieging it and losing all over until I helped them.

Thx for the replies. Well i'm 110 turns in now and i'm about to give them some new regions which i will take from Lithuania. They should be more agressive imo. Maybe they will once they get more power. I got like 300k gold by now. I might give them 100k after I give them 2 regions. Their status says bankrupt so that should help em out for a bit.

A nation that sets a good example is Sicily. They do rather well and go really crazy on my campaign. Conquering regions at byzantine empire, Moorish grounds (they took Tunisia) and now also invading Fatimid Caliphate. Its fun to see that!

I would have loved to see TO do more agressive moves against other nations like this.

I dont know whats wrong with TO. I too have tried funding them as HRE and as Norway... all it does is keep them alive.

On the other hand, when I try to fund the Crusader states (who usually die fast) they flourish and often end up taking out Egypt and hold back the Mongols.

Maybe its something in the AI script?

    p.s.
Its really nice when the CS takes out Egypt, cause then I can direct most crusades towards the Moors in Iberia

I was gonna make a thread but I'll bop into this one to ask other question about the Teutonics .

I'm playing as England and by the time the Teutonics emerged I've already taken much of the Baltic, so they obviously attacked me . I was able to defeat them, but when their final army was dead I didn't receive the "Faction Destroyed" message. Ok, but I didn't care, they had left. But a few turns ago more stacks of them showed up, and are threatening my peaceful and demilitarized Baltic. How many waves of Teutonics are there? Is this normal?

They are the equivalent of a Christian Mongol Horde, don't worry they'll run out soon but Im pretty sure that as a emergent faction they can't truly be destroyed, but the waves will run out soon

Yeps, I think i am aiding the wrong nation now! I should have funded the Crusader States from the beginning. These guys really fought for their lives over there at Jerusalem. Maybe I should take a region at the arabic nations and give it to the Teutonic Order.....lets see how they deal in such a situation. Yesss...those passive guys will now function as experimental labrats in my campaign.

Yeah, but will I get the message they have been destroyed? I'm not really concerned if they still exist but never show up again to harass me, but if I'm not mistaken it is one of Lithuania's objectives to defeat them. So the game in unwinnable with Lithuania? There gotta be a way to finish them once and for all, right?

And this time they arrived with 4 stacks. When they emerged I don't remember how much it was.

Yeah, they dont seem to do much. Honestly the mongols dont do much in my campaigns eithers, surprisingly. Maybe play on a higher difficulty?

I take the opportunity to role play with the Teutonics though XD In real life, they were given land by the King of Poland, IIRC anyway(May have just been a duke). So give them some land! And be best friends forever

Unless your Lithuania. Then its not gonna be good
