    Default tx650 questions

I'm looking at buying the Corsair TX650 power supply, as I need it for a new graphics card. The one I am planning on buying, the gtx 670 requires a power supply with two PCI-E slots. Does anyone know if it comes with these?

within the 8x peripheral cables, it has 2 PCI-e connectors so you should be fine.

the good thing about the v2 that you linked is that it's manufactured by SeaSonic and not CWT.

When you say pci e connectors, do you mean that the cables from my graphics card will be able to connect to the power supply?

CWT actually makes good units, in fact i have played with Seasonic corsair units and the CWT, ive killed the Seasonics the CWT units work fine, CWT units seem to be a bit beefier and stable with large amounts of sata drives I say this after blowing up an HX850 with 8 sata devices. The corsair tech on the phone having examined my unit basicaly broke it down saying that while it had 12 sata plugs your not suppose to use them all granted i only used 8 it still overloaded the PSU, its why you will see some brands like Silverstone limit the Sata power cables to what the 3.3 and 5v can sustain. (8 sata devices overloaded those rails on the HX 850 seasonic model i had.

add to that ive seen more problems from Corsair's TX HX v2 lineup than i have the originals. Their quality has slipped a bit, its not bad but essentially Seasonic vs Corsair Seasonics units are superior for the general products. the AX Platinums and 1200i are a different story for the most part.

That said the TX 650 will do you fine its a perfect it and a damn good unit.

That said the HX GOLD rated lineup are CWT units. aka HX 850 Gold

summary: TX 650 is perfectly fine and will do what you need it to no problems asked its a fantastic unit thats still near the top in terms of reliability as Seasonic built units are fairly rugged, that said not ALL seasonic units are created equal depending on the various changes Manufacturers make specifically Seasonic makes the powersupplies according to the manufacturers specifications in many cases these can be lower than Seasonics own standards.

i've replaced my TX850 (original, not V2) three times already. the unit starts out fine at first, develops a propeller-like noise within weeks or months, and then starts shutting down under heavy load.

my ASUS motherboard is shutting down the computer thanks to surge protection, and it's telling me my power supply is unstable. each time i've replaced it, the computer runs fine for weeks, then starts crapping out. the reason i bought the TX850 in the first place is because it had very high % of positive customer reviews but that's simply not enough. i've heard nightmare stories of CWT-manufactured PSUs and this is my second negative experience with a CWT-manufactured power supply. suffice to say i won't be purchasing any CWT-manufactured PSUs or anything from Corsair (even their SeaSonic or delta stuff). my next PSU will be straight from SeaSonic themselves.

the Power supply has 6+2 pin plugs called PCIe power connectors those connect to the GPU the 670 uses 6pins so the 2 extra pins are left unconnected.

you plug the 2 plugs from the PSU into the GPU thats it.

Plug on the left is what your graphics card uses, and it is already connected to the powersupply so your fine the one on the right is what your PSU has and it is also fine just leave the 2 pins off to the side alone (6+2) makes it so no matter if the card needs a 6 or 8 pin your covered. So your good to go just i have seen some ppl actually try to plug the 2 extra pins into the other 6pin connector on the GPU which is bad, install the PSU hook up all the connectors read the printed lettering on the cable and your fine.

^ same, ive had the opposite altho iam aware of the noise your speaking of altho it seems to be an issue with mostly the TX lineup.

and agreed why buy the knock off with a different sticker when you can just get the real thing... granted im using a Thermaltake Toughpower Grand which has been rock solid but its an older design.

Its to bad the OP wasnt around earlier Thermaltake had a 675w Delta unit on sale on newegg for $55 but the sales gone by now. 80+ Bronze, modular as well but i havent seen any other good deals and ive been looking as i need a new unit for my test rig

If you guys are saying that this thing dies after two weeks, should I find another PSU? I'd kind of finally like to play Empire through Rome 2, as my current card is terrible.

the units not terrible like any product its luck of the draw their are always imperfections or DOA units, the TX 650 will fit your needs and work just fine. Corsairs RMA process is also one of the best in the industry if you do have a problem.
