Failed to logon invalid player email

Multiplayer Issue: Now if anyone comes on saying I mistyped something when putting in the info, they are mistaken. It is my friend that is having this problem, Him and I were going to play TATW 3.1 for the first time I logged in just fine and he could not saying he had this problem "Failed to logon invalid player email" I told him maybe he mistyped and he sat there for five minutes trying and trying... then I told him to give me his info and i just tried it myself, we logged into his account on IGN without any problem we meaning the both of us at separate places. But when we try to log onto his account for TATW 3.1 for multiplayer it just gives the same error, i have tried, he has tried we made sure we were using the correct information. Any help will be appreciated, unless of course you tell me I misspelled something when logging onto multiplayer...

Are you sure someone else does not have it on their computer and has not logged off?
I deleted your second post for security reasons.
I've already had one of my accounts hacked on another site.

it's a brand new account as is the one i am using to log in, it's just his won't work they were both made on the same day, mine works his does not. His was made a few hours later than mine though. so his and my computer are the only ones that have attempted to log into that account specifically.

oh and also just to see if it was just a bug with his account only i tried making a new account got everything out of the way there then i tried logging into the multiplayer and now that account does not work, though my account is still fine.

gamespy was, but i think they got bought out by IGN, i contacted them both. Waiting for a reply, just wanted to see if i could get a faster one here.

Is the game a legal copy?

@irishron: Do you know what the game would tell you if you tried to log on to multiplayer with an illegal copy? I assume it wouldn't let you and would present some sort of message.

With Gamespy requiring the cd-key and Steam having its own DRM, it's almost impossible to get a toorent copy past them. Both need some activation process for it to happen.

Any game you can set up your own LAN, it would seem easy to do what you want.

I have read some multiplayer sites will ban you if you dig out the cheats.

ok, it is not a single problem yes it is legal i bought both the expansion and the original game off of steam for both my friend and I. 2 of each for both myself and him, only problems we are having are multiplayer and stealth did you even both reading the whole thing? my friend and I live in two separate places aka different states in America i got the multiplayer to work for my account Zetera and he can't get his to work for pop2222 i tried to log in to his account pop2222 on my end and it did not work, now please stop trying to find holes in the way i went about this and try to offer possible solutions, only reason i replied like this to you is that you closed my last thread and then came to this thread to try and insult my intelligence by offering a question that unless you think i was the type to pirate the game then complain that it did not work on multiplayer. as previously stated i got my account to work on my computer his ACCOUNT does not work not his game, it works fine, this is a multiplayer issue... his account does not work on my computer with my legitimate game his is also legitimate... either way.

Yes, I read the whole thing, second time in fact. I'm not sure how that applies. I was only trying to help, you'd be surprised, there have been people to come here asking for help with illegal copies of games. So, everything must be considered. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, the only other thing I can think of is a problem on the gamespy/ign end as irishron has already stated. You shouldn't be so hostile to those who are trying to help you. We're trying to diagnose a problem, in our spare time, on a computer that could be half way around the world.

yes, i'm just a little ticked you closed the last thread even though someone looking over TATW part may have been of help basically i want to resolve this issue as soon as possible, and cutting off possible lines of help did not aid in this situation.

Players try to pass off pirate copies as legit all the time so this would eventually become an issus. Steam being Steam, some things do not surprise.

by accounts i mean gamespy/ign account our steam accounts don't have any effect on Medieval 2 Total War: Kingdoms TATW 3.1 Mod the original game was bought over steam as was the expansion in both our cases. and no none of us has mods other than that my Gamespy/IGN account works fine to play the game on multiplayer online, his account does not. I did not log onto his steam account or him mine as steam accounts have no effect to Medieval 2 Total War.

Wait. Let's back up here a few steps. Please don't assume we hold all knowledge of you and your friends situation. We're trying to gather facts.

Did you buy both copies of the M2 or did he buy his own? Did you make the second copy of the game a "gift" to your friend? Steam apparently has a method for buying games for other people as gifts. There have been reported problems with invalid email address used for verification in the past. That would point to an issue with Steam support.

I've also highlighted something you said that raised a suspicion - your friend can't play single player when you're online and playing M2 at the same time. That says to me that something is not resolved with his Steam permissions and his game is still somehow linked to your email. That theory only holds if you bought the game for him somehow though...

You'll either need to give us the precise details about how your friend received his copy of M2 or take this up with Steam support. I doubt this is a Gamespy/IGN issue - this seems to be the root Steam DRM at work causing this problem. Good luck!

I don't think it's a TATW problem. People play TATW multiplayer all the time (Steam and non-Steam), myself included. (admittedly though, I play mostly hotseats and it has been a long time since I actually played an online battle) Sometimes there are reports of the "Incorrect/incompatible game version" but that is due to the players not having the exact same game, i.e. playing with submods or otherwise editing game files. It has to be a problem somewhere between gamespy/ign and possible a Steam issue could be involved too.

does your friend have Hamachi installed? He cannot play on Gamespy if he does.

yes he and I both have hamachi installed, yet it still works for me though. again it isn't based on his computer his account for gamespy does not work on multiplayer online. my account works we have tried logging into it on both ends and success but his it just fails, i'm pretty sure it is a problem on the gamespy end of things. but i tried closing down hamachi either way still no joy
