Pan Macmillan has acquired a new adventure series in a joint acquisition with US sister company, Thomas Dunne Books, beating eight other publishers. The four books will be original stories developed from the video game, Total War: Rome II.
Adult Books division publisher Jeremy Trevathan bought world rights in the series through Luigi Bonomi. The first book will be published in October 2013 to tie in with the global release of the game.
Author David Gibbins will collaborate with developers The Creative Assembly to create original stories set in the world of the epic game Total War: Rome II, the next title in the bestselling franchise of strategic war games published by Sega.
Trevathan said: "We are delighted to be working with one of the most successful games franchises on the market. What is also particularly exciting is that they have an in-built, committed community of players who are emotionally engaged with the games and who have told their researchers that they are hungry for more 'story-telling' within the games and around the games."
Pan Macmillan and Sega will work together to cross-promote the novels, including marketing within the game itself."

I agree They could have made an Yaoi with all famous Daymos. Imagine the *deep* relationship between Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu or Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshi. Hooo...
Hopefully it is not too late.

If all of them turned bishie, and the story is good, plus a DLC to tie in changing the 3d models to bishie, then THIS will be the game that will finally penetrate the rampant and oh so lucrative fujoshi market.

*Then hearts will flutter as Shingen offers his son as a hostage to Kenshin. "OH!!!!! KAWAII!!!!"*

Im not opposed to this idea, but i think it's a little strange. I mean, TW-games aren't fictional universes - what are they going to base it on? Ie, how will this be different from a book based on "real" history(authors like Simon Scarrow and Conn Igguilden and no im not saying that everything in those books is historically accurate please don't derail this topic kthx)

if the quality is good I dont see the problem, but have you read the warcraft, diablo, starcraft, assassins creed, mass effect? I have yet to read one that is of good quality. The best in this genre still goes to starwars, and Im not saying they are the tolstoi, or poe, they are average.

There is a lot of good stories worth writing about... i'm more surprised nobody yet filmed life of Scipio Africanus... having a book series is really a good idea, especially if it will be well written.

For some reason, I read this as "Pac Mac wins Total War series"

Interesting the "October 2013" date drop there. Doesn't mean that's when the game will get released, but these little nuggets dropped here and there can often be good little indicators.

well, can't see any harm here, if it's done properly...I'm all for storytelling

Just this part is a tad strange:
"We are delighted to be working with one of the most successful games franchises on the market. What is also particularly exciting is that they have an in-built, committed community of players who are emotionally engaged with the games and who have told their researchers that they are hungry for more 'story-telling' within the games and around the games."
Anybody asked for more storytelling? May be they mean better AI?

Interesting news, although I'm more excited for the possibilty of a Decisive Battles II

Agreed. However, the Eagles of Rome series by Enrico Marini & Murena by Dufaux is quite good.

But seriously I cannot see any harm from this, I actually enjoyed some game tie in novels. Karen Traviss' Republic Commando books were very entertaining if a bit soppy and The Elder Scrolls Oblivion sequel was ruddy excellent.

EDIT: 1300 posts in four years wooooo

I quite like the idea of this tbh, i remember reading an interview where head of CA said they always looking to diversify and not go stale, this is obviously evidence of this.

Im interested to see if this will strengthen the TW brand, or dilute it as Mass Effect and others alluded to above have done to there games.

Will be good to see the kick this will give AAR now as well, if modders felt they were being neglected for DLC then this is surely CA agreeing peace with them and starting hostilities with the AAR writers! (jks)

'the epic world of the game Total War: Rome II' ...? you mean... this one? You mean, historical fiction with a tie in to the Rome 2 name for marketing purposes?

I'm disappointed it's not a graphic novel Although, it would be amusing and frustrating if SEGA decides to include preorder DLC with the purchase of the book.

My guess is it will be historical fiction with military/combat driven story lines set within the Roman Republic that makes use of TW symbol/artwork. At this point the connection will end.

Im figuring they are making up alternate scenerios, aka: Carthage wins the punic wars, romans conquer Germania, Rome remains a republic, etc. That way they keep up with the running theme of changing history in TW.
