Icon1 CAI for Generals (as option)

Well, i'll just say it straight.

I was watching a movie when the idea hit me like a bullet to the skull.
What if you have the option to actually allow your generals, in the campaign of course, to have their own AI.
And based on their command level, they make either smart or fruitless decisions.

I really hope you guys at CA consider this.
I'm sure it's not too difficult for the programmers, and it will revolutionize Total War.

Even better, is when you have battles with many generals, you can assign them specific soldiers, as you would have in Shogun 2 Coop with people.
This will, of course, require very intelligent A.I.

All opinions are well received, even if negative.

But I always thought the fun of it was commanding your own general? If you didn't want to then auto-resolve? Or am I missing something...

This is a good idea, but have you seen the CAI in total war? Would you really trust your armies with that?

would be better if the enemy general each had its own ai and that you as the faction leader has control of all your generals except those whose loyalty is really low then they could start developing a mind of their own..... like the idea

Like you says "Go kill that bastard" then your General AI will do the rest?

Its maybe good idea and good as option too, would be fun to watch how they mess up or do something surprise us.
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.

Yes, something like what you all said.
And yes I've played all the TWs since Rome, and i'll say it was quite difficult managing armies in say, Medieval II, when I had 30+ provinces.

And yes, maybe give them the task to "capture x, and/or y". And they do the rest.
All dependent on their loyalty and command, of-course.

I really wish they can take this step up, as it will really allow one to play long campaigns with the same comfort as they would begin it.

This game is turn based for a good reason: You can do moves with all armies without someone getting stabbed back meanwhile.

Sounds like your lords in M&B. They really just do their own thing unless you rally them during crisis.

I'd certainly like more of this in M3. Feudalism (especially the sorry state of the French Kingship during Feudalism) should mean that I only directly control my crown lands and have to get obedience from my lords through strong arm tactics.

I don't think it's as applicable for R2. Maybe if Confederation is an option.
