trade route from ports on another island

so playing as the chosokobe,
I have 4 province on my home island. 3 of them have ports for trade routes, but when i expand to other islands i find that i cannot use the ports on those provinces to establish trade routes. i guess because they are not connected to my capitol? so i as chosokobe are you just limited to 3 ports for trading only for the whole game???

its been a while since i played standard shogun, but the answer is (i think) that you're correct. its one of the disadvantagrs of starting on an island

I don't think it's because you can't use the ports for trade, you can.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that ports in other (foreign) provinces are already trading at full capacity and so you can't establish a trade route with them until one opens.

I could be wrong of course but I've got a feeling it's because of the above. Mousing over foreign trade icons in the diplomacy screen should reveal why they can't trade with you.

when i mouse over the trade potentials it states the cannot trade, the ports in your home province at at full capacity.


so if you start off on an island Like the chosokobe, you are pretty much screwed on sea trade?

yes, cause all the trade has to go to your capital.

All you can do is building a Nanban Trade Port on Shikoku...It have more trade route capacity...

Same thing is for Tosa clan in FoTS...

I thought there is a limit on how many trade routes one can handle, and upgrading the capital port probably raises that limit, right?
