HELP - what does jon lie about (SoS spoilers)

I'm currently reading asos and when Jon first meets mance they seem to get a long and mance seems to trust Jon, but in the next chapter (around page 200) when they arrive at the fist of the first men, everyone is pissed off at Jon and calls him a liar, even mance. Have I missed something? What did Jon lie about?

I believe he lied when he told them that the Watch was on the wall, instead they found the ruins of their camp, or maybe its because he told them that the watch was on the fist of the first men, and then since they were not there.

I believe it was not so much a lie but that he did not state that the Watch had marched out in strength. A true deserter would have told Mance right away that Mormont had 300 men upon the Fist.

I was wondering if the whole thing of Renly Baratheon being gay was just hbo or if that is true lore. I read "game of thrones" and am about half way through the "clash of kings" but there really was nothing suggesting that he was actually gay. I’m not sure if it is revealed later on in the storyline but I don’t know why it would consider I have already read past the part where he died. If anyone knows the answer id appreciate it. I would have looked it up but i don’t want to read any spoilers by accident. Thank you and try not to write any spoilers please.

It's never actually written anywhere that he was gay. On the other hand he is quite different If asked, I'd say he is

There are a few hints and suggestions, Judging by some of the conversations with Loras about Renly he definitely had feelings for him. When nobility speak of the two it is usually with obscure hints that they were far closer than they should have been.

A bit of both actualy, HBo went overboard on the gay thing from the oh so obvious scenes to even changing Renly into a more femenine man.

I've got to say, I'm on my first re-read, and even knowing he was gay, I still find the hints in the book so subtle that if I didn't know I wouldn't have put 2+2 together

On the subject of Renly - WTH is the business with the peach and Stannis? Is there some subtle subtext, or was he just messing with Stannis's head?

I think that was one of those things no one believed but pretended to be true for the sake of political convenience. Maybe a few smallfolk believed it, but I think even they had their doubts. Also I think it's why the Pycelle couldn't find her maidenhood when he "examined" her (if he wasn't lying).

I didn't notice it either but yeah, it's all there. He was gay. I don't think the peach had any real meaning, maybe a jibe about how they look at life or something? Renly's hardly a deep thinker or one for stuff like that as far as I can see.

It is NOT confirmed in the lore that Renly is gay. Theres multiple things hinting at it but we cant know, he could definetly go either way or be a bisexual.
The show goes overboard with Renly, much better in the book in each and every way^^

Ive not seen this anywhere, ive seen it repeatedly claimed however but it seem based on the "hints" in the books. Could you provide a link perhaps?
