Default New build starts ok then crashes

I have installed a Asus M5A97 motherboard on my system.

    My setup is,
    Motherboard Asus M5A97
    CPU AMD FX4100
    Memory 2GB
    2 X HDD 500GB and 1 TB
Gforce 8600 1 MB Graphics card (to be replaced)
    DVD drive
The Motherboard CPU and memory are new the DVD, graphics card, HDDs are from the old system and were working okay before.

Okay my problem the system boots okay with one beep goes into BIOS then starts to load windows. Then i get a BSOD with a fairly meaningless message that there has been a problem at (long list of numbers) and then restarts. I have not formatted the HDD yet from the old system i was going to reinstall the OS.

I also have tried to install windows on a blank HDD same thing happens

The message i get with the BSOD
A problem has been noted with your computer and windows has shut down to avoid damage.
    The numbers are,
0XC0000007B(0XF8D254,0XC0000034,00000000,0X0000000 (does not mean a lot to me)

So any idea what the problem is i am wondering if the motherboard is faulty. But really i have not come across this problem before when upgrading a system.

    Thanks

Hmm nobody any ideas. I agree its a strange one i have built quite a few systems and not come across this fault before. From experience a new build will either boot ok or refuse to work, not boot okay run then crash after about 30m seconds. My thoughts are that one of the new components CPU, motherboard, memory are faulty but must be working well enough for the PC to boot up.

Okay before i go to the hassle of contacting the company i bought it from, repacking the MB bundle and paying to send it back is there anything i should try. I would hate to send it back and then the company say its working okay and send it back.

I have checked the leads and reseated them
    Tried other HDDs
Removing the motherboard and tried running it with just the CPU, memory and a HDD

    None worked the problem persisted.

The only other thing i can thing of is to try changing the CPU, memory or MB but i do not have spare CPUs or memory lying around.

From this end it sounds like letting your system complete POST is ending in a BSOD. That says to me that you have something wrong with that new motherboard. Whether the problem is software related, hardware related or user related is up in the air at this point.

First off - try to boot into Safe Mode with Network. Can you get Windows to launch with minimal driver support? If so try downloading your motherboard drivers to a thumbdrive and flash your MOBO. That's a relatively possibility for the cause of your problem. If you can't on the system you're working on then download the flash with another system and apply it to your current machine.

Secondly - are you sure you handled the MOBO correctly? You made sure to ground yourself before installing?

Lastly - If it completes POST but hangs with Windows then I look to a firmware update before going too far past that. The only thing that would really help us nail it down from here is if you transcribed the entire BSOD message you're getting. The little you gave us is no clue at all. Good luck!

Thanks it seems to boot ok until i try to go into windows or install a new OS. Interestingly i can actually boot up using a boot disc and run that with no problem. But i agree its probably the motherboard that's the problem.

I dont think the problem is due to careless handling as i used a wrist strap when installing it.

I dont really want to do much more to the Motherboard as its still under guarantee and i dont want to void it. I am contacting the company i bought it from to see what they say.

One question are there any programmes out there which i could use to test the components.

Honestly - return it and be done with it. Good luck!

well only thing if you have done a bios update and checked all screws are grounded and wires are ok is check some readings with a voltmeter.

but I think polecat is right. return it.

p.s if its new then get a new mobo sent not the original.
