I have a similar problem at least with the Roman campaign. I thought I had it beat with a clean install of RTW Gold, fixed the first battle I had in the campaign but from thence on it crashes in every battle when trying to get back to the map (Win 7 64, ATI Radeon 5800 series, Intel i5, 4 GB RAM). I've turned off Norton during the game and protected the RSII folder against a scan. Auto resolve seems to work.

I`m glad I`m not the only one ) but anyway I should give more details ......... Well all campaigns i play and go into battle when I try to return to campaign map well y know it crashes, happens to all fations , costum battles work good after batle returns to menu with no problem.I have Windows 7 64 bit, 8 GB RAM Corsair 1600 , Intel i3 540 3.07 GHz, AMD HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 128.Rome Total war Gold Edition.

Well I think I solved it for now I think this may be cuz of some problems during the instalation some files were not extracted, so GurneyMan try instaling the mod in a empty folder and then copy all the files in that folder in your rome total war folder with RS2.5 already instaled there and overwrite all the files. It worked for me for now hope it does for you.

Well it started crashing again!Don`t know what to do

Quick advice: when the battle is over, wait circa 30 seconds at the statistics screen, before you press the button that takes you to the campaign map.

Thanks but alas it doesn't want to work for me. I'm think it might just be the Roam campaign this is happening - a couple of test battles with the Egyptians seemed to go ok. Will go back to the other than Roman campaigns and see what gives.

It's a real shame I can't get this mod to work without frequent CTDs during battles or at the end of battles - it looks really good. Auto resolve seems to work but it's not as much fun as fighting yourself. I thought it might only be Roman battles but fighting in cities in my Egyptian campaign also ends with battle CTDs. Obviously others can get it to work, my PC should be able to easily handle the graphics/computation for this game and I disable Norton when playing. So I don't know - corrupt download (would the game work in all things other than battles?), is it a Win 7 thing?

i have that issue too - in my roman, greek, bosporus, pergamon and carthage campaigns after i end battle (not matter if it is siege or not, or leaded by family members, generals or captains) i have ctd. I hate that so cool mod is quite unplayable :/, on the other hand europa barbarorum, warhammer mod and rome total realism pe work perfectly.
i have win 7 64, i7 720qm, geforce gt 330m and 4 gb ram so i guess it is not the technical specification
i usually play at alex engine, at barbarian invasions same problem, vanilla engine isn't working too.
older release worked perfectly, now after each battle i can see taskbar and then wild crash occur. I tried to change resolution, i turned off AA (nvidia driver seems to handle that) and i'm out of ideas how to make RSII battles working. I also reinstalled whole rome with expansions and then installed rs2 on fresh game. Will you guys make any fix for that?

Techincal details of your systems would be nice - otherwise the posts may be ignored.

See this thread: here to see what information we'd like.

Also, please describe what types of battles that are causing the CTDs.

There is a known problem with R:TW called the 'reinforcement CTD'. This can happen when you are sieging a settlement and a relieving army attacks you. If you win the battle and don't kill all the garrison there can be a CTD - many people htink this is caused by the garrison tryingto get back into the settlement but they cannot as it's now under your control. The only solution to this seems to be autoresolve....

    Thanks Brusilov

Ahhh .... 'reinforcement CTD' ... it is a seige/relief where my current frustrating CTD is occurring at the moment - back in and will have a look at another non-seige battle.

I know we aren't supposed to post in others posts but since these seem to be very similar issues will I continue posting here or do you wish a new thread created?

    Regards

May as well keep it here as they are similar problems.

We do prefer seperate threads though - it's just that I'm not very active at the moment. The main reason for the seperate threads is that we can be dealing with one member and if someone else comes in and hijacks thre thread and their problem is resolved and we close the thread then the original poster has their thread closed.

    Thanks again Brusilov

Info: Win 764, Rome - Gold Edition, no Steam, C:Games/RSII, BI exe (see comment below), i5 750 @2.67 GHz, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 5800 series. Options mainly High with glint & shadows off - default settings from RSII launcher.

The games where it pretty well always crashes at the end of the battle (or during sometimes) was with BI exe. The game is more stable with Rome.exe and most battles will complete and re-enter the campaign map. With the Rome.exe, the only trouble I seem to be having is battles within or seiging towns. Hopefully I've provided the save game - here when the Carthaginians rally out of Genoa the game crashes when I'm taking the square. Whenever I try to defend a seige it will crash during battle.

I'm not a tech head but I would be surprised that its the specs of my machine - I'm guessing a Win 7 problem - someone had advised to run in XP compatible mode and when I work out how to do that I'll give it a try.

    Regards

    I run on this system:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Dell XPS 730X
    Intel Core i7 Extreme processor 975(3.33GHz,8MB L2 cache,6.4GT/sec)
    Memory : 6144MB (3 x 2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Tri-Channel
    Graphics : 2GB EVGA GTX670 FTW
Audio : SoundBlaster Xfi Titanium Pcie card
Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)
    Dell 3008WFP

I play at 2560x1600 with graphic settings to the max with huge unit scale. I don't run hi-res vegetation or units as that tends to drop the frame rate too much.

I don't run with XP Compatabilty mode and have not done so with either Windows Vista (64 bit) or Windows 7. If you want to try doing so look at the shortcut properties and the compatabilty tab.

I don't run in Windowed mode.

I don't allow 'unlimited men on battlefield' as I don't want the AI to control my armies due to previous bad experiences (where the AI runs my balanced phalanax, cavalry and missle units straight into the enemy lines).

I play using the R:TW Alex exe.

I've installed to my own program files folder (I did the screens for the install instructions).

    Brusilov

Other than not having a beast of a machine as yours, but I would have thought mine is sufficient for the job, and not running Alex.exe there is not much difference. With the video settings - do these need to be changed in the RS launcher or can they be effected thru the ingame video settings options e.g I run in 1440x900 which I change in the game video settings (along with other changes) but not in the RSII launcher? Am I creating video setting conflicts?

    Thanks

The changes you make in-game via the options menu are reflected in the preferences.txt file which is the one the launcher changes.

However, the hi-res vegetation, hi-res units and bloom cannot be changed in the preferences.txt file.

I usually make my changes to the preferences.txt file in the donor folder that is used for mods. When I copy that and install the mod over the new folder I have the settings that I like. Sometimes, I will 'tweak' them for screen shots etc - usually involving making the grass draw distance a larger number but this tends to have an adverse affect on the frame rate (single digits) but as it's only used for battle replays it's not a problem otherwise (I was asked at one stage to use the standard settings when taking screens for the RSII previews).

The main thing to point out with PCs is that R:TW will only use a single core and it won't make the most of recent graphic cards.

My PC dates from the end of 2009 as well - I've replaced the graphics card (used to have a pair of GTX295s in SLI) and the hard drives (one started to fail a few months ago).

Well ... RSII now works like a charm but I'm not sure why. I played around with video settings but this didn't seem to work so well. The only thing I can put it down to is that I cleaned up my Registries (I was using Norton Utilities for this). Now RSII runs with only an occassional CTD during battle but I don't have anymore end of turn CTDs.
