    Default Question about new GPU

So after years of my old 512 MB GPU i finally bought a new one. what i was wondering is, since i have two slots on the motherboard, can i just hook this new one up and then hook up my old one below it and connect the two? I've never death with wiring two GPUs together so im not exactly sure how it works and these are two different brands. Here's the new one:

EVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

    Old one:
    ASUS EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Thanks in advance for any help i can get!

I don't believe it's possible. You're talking about using SLI (nVidia's GPUs) or Crossfire (ATI GPUs). Unless there's some new development, you've always had to link two cards of the same type in order for them to run in tandem.

You need two of the same cards. You also need to make sure you motherboard supports SLI/Crossfire.

It does, thanks for the help guys. Any advice on what to do with this old GPU? Are people buying them on eBay or craigslist?

they sell but usually for only around $30-40 these days the 4800 series is now 4 years old,

the 4850 is only on par with a 8800 GTX / 8800 GTS /9800 GTX / GTS 250 (all three are essentially the same nvidia card performance wise regardless the 8800 was released in 2006, essentially the 4850 was top of the pile performance wise 6 years ago, its essentially considered entry lvl / minimum spec these days.
