    Default Governors?

Got the game at the weekend and I did do a quick search but couldn't find anything on the subject: Is there any benefit to keeping a family member/general in a castle town (e.g. tax bonus or loyalty boost)? Or can they all be out commanding armies hundreds of miles from your capital with no problems back home?

Played every TW game except the original Shogun, and I have to say I'm enjoying it hugely so far. Not sure if its just the 'new game' excitement but it already seems a lot more accessible than Empire and in time (and with mods when I get bored of vanilla) it might replace my beloved Rome as my favourite in the series!

Yeah, it has loyalty and tax boost, i think. ANOTHER perk, is if you have them promoted to an appropriate "commissioner", it could even have discounts on buildings and training costs. AND if you follow the general's skill tree, you might even have him be an honorable bastard that people will like, then add another with choice retainers that boost population loyalty..

Or do what I do. Leave them to the metsukes and one commissioner of building stuff in the capital, and let all the other taishos, fight.

(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)

Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

Is this tax boost shown anywhere? I tried moving my general out of town for a season but it didn't seem to change the tax rate. I assumed certain comissions would make a general better suited for life at home but my provinces won't suffer too much without a general in them?

    Leave Metsukes in town.
Always get generals to the front leading armies, they have battle abilities and an influence radius that is wasted sitting at home with their feet up.

The general won't change anything sitting at home.

In battle his level will go up and he'll get more command stars. The more command stars he has the better he will be at his chosen commission. So a 2 star general of finance will not bring in as much revenue as a 4 star general of finance. It doesn't matter if he's home or away but he'll level up faster after battles.

If you hover over your generals and commissions in the family screen you'll see a tool tip describing the affects of assigning commissions to different generals. Don't forget that swapping commissions between generals can sometimes upset them.

Some generals may have a repression bonus, but that is everywhere in the province, not just in the town itself. so there is no real reason to keep them in a town. better to have him fight battles and gain stars

Or do what I did, make the recruitable, so you can do both things. Have some as governors, others as generals and even some as admirals!

Leave a governor in the capital or a nearby province with an adequate army. He can help fighting any rebels or help keep stability between the darned peasants.

He can also give some advantages to the provinces he is stationed in, provided that you have given him a commission/ministry to handle, or he has bonus giving traits.

Yes, there is a point keeping a governor behind the frontlines. Be sure to keep him garrisoned as long as possible, or he will rebel.

Thanks for all the responses. A further question; is there any disadvantage to accepting every general who gets offered to you (besides the obvious 1000 koku recruitment)? At the moment I only have 2 full stacks and I've got my Daimyo, his third born son and a random general. I've turned down all offers so far because it doesn't seem worth it at the moment, but if there isn't any real disadvantage I might start accepting some. Is it worth having at least 6/7 generals just so you can fill all the comissions (Daimyo, Heir then the 4 commissioners and maybe 1 spare) even if you don't intend to use all of them for fighting?

My Daimyo's first born became a general at age 14, and was then assasinated the next turn His second born (and now heir) is clearly just lazy as he's 19 now and his younger brother has been leading one of my armies for years already

I think there's not, besides the 1000 koku and the upkeep from then on.

Depends upon how large your faction is. If you think that you have too few generals, you may recruit him. But otherwise he will be a liability.

I have a general for every three provinces. Most of the time I don't keep more than 3 generals at best. They consume 1,000 Koku (which is a large sum for me) and then they drain up more economy as upkeep.

And since I am playing FoTS, those generals die very easily to gunfire. Just a single good. aim, and you have lost your precious (or useless) drain on your economy.

Keep your Daimyo and a general for every commission. That gives a leader for 5 stacks of armies.
