    Default Populations...

I bring this up because of a problem I'm having in a current RTW campaign. Im playing the Gauls, and for a while, i was at war with 5 factions who were all attacking me with everything they had. Well, I managed to hold them off, and they stopped coming. Now I'm expanding. And now I see why they stopped attacking....Their cities are empty. i'm playing with huge unit size, btw, and those 10 full German stacks I slaughtered represented their entire population. So now all the cities Im conquering don't even have enough people in them to retrain my units. And they make almost 0 money. Its not cool at all. i'm not having this problem, because my men survive, but Germania should have had far more than 20,000 men available over the 20+ years I fought them. That being said, the AI that keeps sending full stacks of troops into your country only to have them slaughtered by the thousands needs to be reworked as well. Eventually they should get the message. On vh/vh, your only enemy capable of fielding an army should not be the Brutii, especially with Germania, Britons, Spanish, and Carthage still alive and on the map.

yes well, but this could be a topic for Medieval II thouhg. me too I thought there was a tweak with population
now playing RTR Romans and I have Rome 31000 ppl at 211BC, I mean... dah... and I haven't had any units training there, nor plague, and all buildings for growth... so I think this gives a bit of minimized world feeling.
I am not whining, and not saying it sucks, but maybe, just maybe, it could be better to have more realistic population numbers.

I think the term "population" is slightly misleading. This actually represents the available pool of men you can recruit from. It would therefore make sense for this to be low after a long war and to not exceed 35k at the best of times.

I seem to remember reading that M2TW will assign each unit to a class, and that you will be limited to how many of a particular unit you can recruit at one time by the available pool for that class. This sounds like a better system than that seen in previous TW games.

Then why does your income goes down when you have less people to put into your army?

THis has happened to me, too. Germania, Dacia and Briton will all expend themselves against my Gauls. Then, when I capture a settlement, it has a POP of only 300, 88, or maybe even as low as 12.

On Huge unit settings, it only costs a few thousand to train up 8 Peasant units and disband them in the new town, boosting its population to 2000, which typically will allow new construction. The price doubles for large unit setting, but is still reasonable.

Of course, you need a nearby city or group of cities that can spare the 2000 population; but being Gaul and only needing 6000 in each city to max your tech tree, finding spare populace should be no problem.

Because the population number also represents the contributing part of society ( back then at least) of the males for about 16 – 50 and the depletion of the amount working people has a very negative effect on ones economy , as no can pay taxes to support the other civil intuitions

I wasn't talking about my cities, or worrying about my pop, i was just kinda annoyed that simple population should stop my war, rather than diplomacy or whatever. It's unrealistic that 5 major batlles should kill off the entire male population.
